A few basic questions about the remote wonder...

(1) Does it have a PCI card interface? If not, what is the interface with the computer... USB?

(2) Any idea how to use it to turn a computer on and off? :D

(1) Remote Wonder has an USB receiver (a small box that you simply plug on any USB port)

(2) in Windows XP, when all applications are clodes, just press the red button "Power", and after choose what you want (Quit, restard, stand-by) with the arrows and press OK button. That's all !

sorry you can't turn the comp on with the remote... that'd be pretty cool though.

you can turn it off just like the previous post described

Bah, I think I'm going to make an IR reed switch/relay then to turn the computer on by remote.

Sounds cool still. I like the USB part (I have no PCI slots available :D).

Looks like a lot of the discussion in this forum is on plugin-ins, and getting it to work with lots of applications.

If you wrote an application in, say, Visual Basic, how difficult would it be to get the remote wonder to navigate buttons and menus and make selections?

If your going to make an IR (Infra red) activated switch mechanism, be aware that you will need a different remote transmitter because the remote wonder uses radio waves not IR. ATI have released a software development kit (SDK) for the Remote Wonder. It's freely available to download off their site. Apparently the Remote Wonder uses Windows standard commands for many functions so as long as you write your app to be windows control function compliant, there shouldn't be a problem. Of course some of the specialised Remote Wonder buttons will only work with ATIs own Multimedia Centre applications.

I actually decided to go with the PC remote from streamzap instead, primarily because it is IR. I see RF being a problem down the road... the stramzap is said to be compatible with universal remotes after a software upgrade.

Now I just have to figure out the on/off IR switch... can't decide whether to build a separate receiver and decoder, or tap into the streamzap receiver. Either way is going to be one major pain.
