85" TV too big for 7 ft viewing distance?

Yes I would say so. Most tech experts recommend 50-55" screen for 7 feet viewing distance.

That said, I always recommend going a little bigger than what is recommended. 85" screen is a bit much for that distance away though, IMO.

Seconded.

Yes or no? Will it get fatiguing to watch?

HD, 4k or 8k? Because the viewing distance recommendations are usually based on what resolution detail people can generally resolve at a given distance. Not necessarily eye fatigue, which shouldn't be much of an issue.... think about how close you sit to a monitor.

This only goes up to 4k, but thats not really surprising as 8k is awfully new.

An 85" TV isn't too big at all, if it's 4k. At least from a fidelity/quality perspective. Some people may simply not be comfortable sitting that close though, which most people aren't...since they are use to sitting quite a ways away from a 55-65" or smaller 1080P screen (no wonder most people can't see the difference in 4k).

I sit about 4ft from a 49" 4k screen, and it's perfect. I could easily do 55", but 65" is pushing it.

An 85" screen would really be good anywhere from about 6-10ft away.

I would get a 75 inch QLED or 77 inch OLED and call it a day. Not sure which 85 inches you are looking at but if it is a projector then screw it.

I envy you guys with >50" screens. My wife doesn't put her foot down often, but she hates big screen TVs because reasons. So we're stuck with a 48" 1080p screen. First world problems.

Do what I do when the wife says no. Buy one for yourself, then when she see it....boom. She'll either love it or hit you with it like mine does lol.

edit: Meant to say, my son in law got a ~80" screen. I'm not sure what brand or exact size, but viewing distance in their living room is about 8' and it looks great.

hehe well that be up to you to decide if the consequences are worth the gains lol.

May i suggest buying her something she wants when you decide to bring the big screen home

 Man I'd go broke in a heartbeat.

Our theater seats are a little over 7ft from our 65" TV. I think 85" would be too much for my old eyes at that distance but I think I could have handled a 70" maybe a 75".
