4K, IPS, 27", FreeSync Monitor for $399!

Wow, that is a good deal! It's too bad I'm not willing to jump to 4k yet. I've been looking for the right 2k monitor for months and I don't have much confidence in any of them. It seems like a 50/50 shot of getting one that works or one that has issues/breaks within a month.

Not bad but for an extra 150$ they should do the same for a 30-32".

Also HDR 10 bit a must.

I wonder when will the HDR monitors hit? Price? Biggest issue with a 4K I see is actually driving it. Freesync should help on this monitor to give a smoother feel. I am still debating, makes my Korean 1440p monitor obsolete :D.

whats the benefit to HDR 10 bit. I don't really know much about monitor technology.

HDR monitors are not out yet, content is not out as in games rendering to the screen with High Dynamic Range. Basically HDR will give more life like intensity - for example looking at a camera flash on a HDR monitor would be like looking at a real one. The sun on the HDR monitor will actually be rather bright (not as bright as the sun but a lot brighter then current monitors). Most games internally render in HDR (better precision) and then tonemap to LDR (low dynamic range). Still the game will need to output to the monitor HDR.

Now should I spend $399 for a 4K freesync monitor or add $200 and get an Oculus Rift? Looking at VorpX that takes a number of games and makes them 3d with head tracking is very intriguing.

And also wide gamut.

Meh... I'd prefer 1440p and 120Hz support. Also hate that most "consumer" monitors ship with a garbage non-adjustable stand.

The LG can use a Vesa stand so an extra cost for something decent. 4K unfortunately does not come in 120hz, then again what could drive that? Freesync should help a lot in 4K.

Eizo monitors have better QC than most of usual manufactures like Asus, LG and costs premium and they don't have 4k gaming monitors ...

A review here of the latest 1440p model...

I really like that stand on that monitor, how low it can get. I just don't need another 1440p monitor. The LG 4K is uberly tempting but I game mostly on a 3440x1440p monitor and I really doubt 4K will be better. The wider curved aspect is rather awesome. Still I have multiple machines so a 4K will probably fit in somewhere.

Well I just could not let this deal go by, so I ordered one and it will be shipped to my door (free shipping) should have it next Wednesday. Now if I went out yesterday, I could have picked one up at a store not too far from here, there all out now.

I figure by the time HDR monitors are reasonable in cost 2-3 years as well as VR headsets ~1 year this monitor will do great.

Yeah for $1200+ I would have to pass. I am probably going to bite the bullet on the BenQ XL2730Z. $509 currently, even directly through BenQ, which is where I will order it from... That way if there is a problem it can go straight back to them. The recent negative reviews suggest a possible bad batch of them over the past couple months (where it was mostly positive reviews before then), but if you get one that works its probably the best 27" 2k 1ms 144hz Freesync monitor out there that doesn't eat your wallet.

... I wont be worrying about HDR/4k for likely a couple years while technology and pricing sorts itself out.

Well BestBuy indicates I should get the monitor tomorrow. I won't get to play with it much until Thursday - looks like a fun weekend is coming up.

Well they had two LG monitors for sell at $399 with normal price at $499. One HDMI only POS and the good one. Obviously I selected the POS one with high hopes of getting the good one. :(

So it really looks like my fault, they delivered this rather quickly but it was only in it's monitor box no other box to protect it. Now BestBuy you can take the item right to the store for refund or exchange, so that is what I am going to do, probably tomorrow.
