17.4.4

WOW!

Just installed and the driver installed an URL shortcut on my desktop for "Quake Champions"! I honestly thought I had gotten some malware on my compooter!

I didn't install with express settings and I KNOW I didn't see any option for this shortcut!

As if the lack of enhancements for Fiji wasn't enough!...

Maybe they need the extra money... The development of Zen and Vega shot the bugdet to bits! Jesus...

Some of you didnt like game icons installed so we just updated the Radeon Software package without one. We heard you. Sorry.

It was silly to include it, even though it's fairly harmless. What's next, AMD drivers now with Norton? Even raptr was opt out.

As Terry said, it was a mistake. Easily corrected too.

Another set of drivers that do fu*k all for Fury cards. Way to go AMD just keep patching your mid range sh*t cards and leave us Fury owners alone again  Don't forget that until you release Vega vapourware Fury is your high end card or have you just forgotten that? FFS sort this out!!!!!!!!

Have you reported those issues?

I see, it was a mistake and they would have removed it even if people didn't complain?

I think people wouldn't complain if it was optional and/or an informed install of the shortcut, that was their mistake.

Why would they remove it? If people hadn't complain about this AMD would just assume users wouldn't mind about it.

Yes was a mistake they admite it and they solved it very fast so lets move on.

It was presented as if AMD right after release regretted their decision.

I have easily moved on, but I'm curious of what their intentions where, especially since it wasn't even an direct link to the official page, but through bit.ly.

these driver updates have become a real drag to me.
Not only they keep reporting the same known issues over and over, but they continue to lack useful features, saturation and color correction just to name a couple, as well has not adding anything interesting/innovative gaming-wise to the bunch since like forever.

Let's admit it, life has become REALLY boring on the AMD side of things... :(

laptops

we have gaming laptops equally capable to desktops, like my alienware 15 r2, but the ****ing crazy **** developers have disabled the Relive functionality. why? please enable it.

Kombatant AMD have basically abandoned the Fury cards driver wise even though we are still technically their 'top end' cards. All they seem interested in is fixing bugs and improving performance for 4xx/5xx cards which are mid-range and refreshed parts.

Do they not understand that you have to keep your enthusiast card owners happy even if the Fury line-up is soon to be replaced? As an enthusiast I will never buy a Polaris or mid-range card but if this is how they treat their current enthusiast owners why should I bother with Vega. Remember all those people who are interested in Polaris aren't going to buy Vega but people like me are. So where are their sales coming from? If you really pi*s me off I ain't going to buy off you again. Why can't they seem to understand this?

If I remember correctly, mass sales aren't in the enthusiast-segment, it's mid-range/low-range and ofc. oem.

Enthusiast market was only a few % of income rev. if I remember correctly.

You're missing two important points;

1. Halo effect A high end card has a trickle down halo benefit to the mid and low range as consumers want to buy from the company with the fastest/best product. Human nature I guess.

2. Average selling price (ASP). Currently AMD GPU's sell from around $100 to $250 so maybe the ASP is $150. Nvidia cards sell from $100 to $700 so the ASP is likely to be nearer $300. We also know that Nvidia are selling 3 cards for every AMD one which is why Nvidia are making a rude profit whereas AMD are losing money.

Obviously I don't know what the ASP for either IHV is but I'm using it as an example to show that having an enthusiast card can drive up profits even if sales are lower in that segment..

Bill how many times on this tread have I said I'm buying Vega if it can beat a 1080 and come in around £600. If it can beat a Ti I'll go to £700 no problem. How does that make me an AMD hater?? I'm absolutely willing to put my money where my mouth is. How many others on this thread are?

The driver works fine on my Fury Pro but so did the last 10 drivers or so but they bring no enhancements to the table for Fury cards. Just more 4xx/5xx improvements and fixes. Why should I not feel pi**ed off by that? Talk about abandoned :bleh: I totally bought into HBM and where has that ultimately got me? Absolutely no ******g nowhere to be precise.

1. after the first year or so you don't see much
but for new game releases and they have been pretty good over the last year with new game drivers as needed

2. they don't always list everything they do in a new driver

Bill I fully understand where you're coming from and if I owned a 980Ti I would understand that it has been replaced by the 1070/80/Ti/XP/XPe and it's time to upgrade but my Fury card is still the top end AMD card and I really can't remember the last driver update that did anything for my card.

When I bought it I was kinda hoping that AMD would be able to leverage the massive bandwidth of HBM further down the line but sadly nothing has materialised. I still think HBM is the future and I'm loath to go back to GDDRX even though there is no evidence to prove that. It's just a gut feeling. Honestly I think the Fury lineup was the basta*d child AMD didn't want as it was meant to come out on 20nm and never did.

I just think they took the first chance to dump it and therefore abandoned those of whose bought it. Luckily for me at 1440p it's a great performer and I can't praise Sapphire enough for it's overall cooling solution and card. Absolutely tremendous and it's now lasted me nearly two years

I'm just lamenting AMD's lack of support for their top-end card. Like the saying goes..'Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.'

The next release 17.5.1 fixes the overclocking issues. I assume, that you are using either 290 or 390, which is where the Wattman tool would fail to apply overclocks.
