ATI Flash Acel - Bug in Flash beta

If I remember correctly in December ATI announced that new drivers worked/used the Flash 10.1 beta with hardware acel. Anyone that switched to the Flash beta because of that might want to read about this bug & how to easily bypass it...

    Espresso Strictly Decaff

After much too much work just to see if it was any good, Cyberlink's MediaShow Espresso does use the GPU, but otherwise it fails to stand up to the dime a dozen media converters cloned under several different wrappers. You're limited to presets for output formats, which normally is fine, but to...

    8.8 drivers

Well, figure I have some sort of bragging rights to a fairly extreme, ATI driver horror story. In truth that is pushing things a bit, since it was *probably* coincidental , but still, I had a crash installing the 8.7's, & at the same time holes did burn through 2 of the motherboard’s...

    Prob. 8.6 & DivX?

Don't know if anyone else is having any problems or not, but just found the other day that 8.6 broke DivX playback in wmplayer using a 2600 pro with DXVA on for all types of video. The cure was setting "ATI Disable"=dword:00000001 under [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DivXNetworks\DivX4Windows]

New 650 drivers = new USB prob?

Well, the 8.5 drivers came out late last week, & I wanted to give it a few days of trial before posting anything... After a rocky install in Vista 32 Home Prem SP1, with a Gigbyte AM2+ board with the AMD 770 chipset, things seem OK. It'll likely be another day or two before I can say anything...

Cat 8.3 compatibility prob with 650 TV card

Just a heads up in case it helps anyone... While of course everyone’s “mileage may vary” ATI’s Catalyst 8.3 video card drivers break (or at the least interfere with) their drivers for the theater 650 PCI cards – I have no idea how hardware specific the problem is. Worse, with significant...

Hybrid 650 pci cards do QAM

QAM works, is possible with an ATI TV Wonder 650 (pci, hybrid tuner) in XP (SP3 RC2). There’s loads of stuff I don’t know, haven’t tried yet etc., but, I figure posting my results so far is a win-win situation: let’s other folks play around and maybe get something working sooner, & if anyone...

No Change in Jan 650 driver

Just a quick note that the only changes for the latest 550 - 600 - 650 drivers might be the installer... Maybe that'll save someone some trouble, particularly if they connect via modem. :)

    regpermwriter.exe error

Probably just an isolated (or hopefully not very common) problem installing 8.1 in xp pro sp2... Starting normal install of ccc + driver combined pkg repeatedly got an error (something like): Unhandled win32 exception in regpermwriter.exe [2080]. After that install continued, slooooowwwwly, &...

    7.11 CCC install prob.

In case it helps anyone else, CCC would not start manually or with winXP after installing new, complete driver pkg. Multiple un-install/re-install had no effect. Ran separate CCC installation program & everything's back to working. Ran Windiff on 2 ATI install folders -- show several more recent...

    Another app for tuners

Came across this yesterday: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Other-VIDEO-Tools/ArcSoft-TotalMedia.shtml In Vista Home Prem it would only recognize the analog tuner on my TVWonder 650 pci (said the digital tuner was in use), but *might* work for newer ATI cards. *Might* be worth...

USB prob with 550/650 drivers more serious

I found that the USB glitch present in the 550/650 drivers can conflict with USB hardware/software causing the system to lock – during capture the video image can freeze, running apps appear to keep running, but my Microsoft PS2 keyboard & wireless USB mouse are dead, requiring a hard reset or...

    Working with ATI broken mpg2

Working with captured, double height, mpg2 video, DVDPatcher seems the easiest was to modify the 1st header only of a demuxed video stream – otherwise a lot of software will refuse it. Converting to avi, the double height might even be a slight plus… The basic idea is that when you’re working...

AIW Tuner in Vista - sort of

Made some very slight progress that might be of use or interest to anyone trying to get an AIW working in Vista RC1. As they say on TV: “Previously…” Trying to get an AIW 9600 working in Vista RC1, found that the T200 driver from the earlier (prior to RC1) ATI Beta driver was needed – it’s left...

    Vista RC1, AIW, & Audio

Trying to get some sort of multimedia working in Vista RC1, found a few things I wanted to share in case it helped anyone. 1st off, the WDM driver (T200 AVStream) is not included in the latest cat beta for RC1. If you upgrade (from beta 2 etc.), or install the older ATI beta driver first, Vista...
