Official AMD Ryzen 5000 Series & 7000 Series Thread

I have a 5800x3D. I don’t think anyone is blowing anyone out of the water. It is about the platform not the price. Intel 13900K seems like the most well rounded CPU without having to worry about schedulers and other crap. Just plug in and play all day. When it’s time to do some productivity work, it also smashes that. I really should’ve listened to my gut and bought the 13900K when it came out.

And yes, it is a pain to get it working. Btw if the game is not "detected" both CCDs will be running and it will diminish the experience in the game a bit.

On topic of price, I think HU said you can build an Intel for 1 G and an AMD for 1.2 G. 20% price increase for similar performance and compatibility issues down the line. No thanks please.
Is that your experience with the 5800x3d? I thought it only has 1 ccd.

I think he means the 7950x3d. The 5800x3d has only one ccd. But sure if we compare the 7950x3d platform costs vs 13900ks then yea theres a 20% premium unless a sale. But for a pure gaming rig a 7800x3d will match the platform price and beat the 13900ks in many key games. Most times matching it.

Oh, OK. I'm sure the drivers will improve. I pretty sure all popular aaa games are supported. While it's not ideal you can force the scheduler to run on the ccd with v-cache.

So any nub buying this crap?

Maybe, but I just want to see users experiences with it for a bit before deciding on 7950x3d or 7800x3d.

Scheduling looks like it could be a pain in the ass, so 7800x3d is the obvious choice. My only gripe with the 7800x3d is that it will be slower than my 7700x at times, which runs at 5.6-5.7 in most games. 7950x3d has the best of both worlds, but might be too much of a PITA to deal with..

I have decided to skip this whole fiasco. Unless 7800X3D is best thing since sliced bread I am not paying 1200 smokes for 5 (4K) - 10% (1440P) perf delta over 5800X3D.
Also given I have an AMD rig I won't get even $350 bucks for my current system.

Yeah, if you already have a 5800X3D there's a strong argument for just sticking with it and waiting for the next gen or the one after. There's not that big of an increase going up from it in most games, especially if you are playing at higher resolutions.

Isn’t 13900K best of both worlds?

13900k is a great CPU but it's a dead end platform and I already have an AM5 board, so not going to switch. And, in the most CPU heavy titles I have like MSFS2020, the X3D is 35% faster than the 13900k.

It's a lot more than '5 to 10%' over the 5800X3D if you're CPU limited. If you're not CPU limited in anything, why upgrade CPU at all?

Yeah, I am pumping 150-200 fps in most games these days. Think I will just make this putter last another 1-2 years.

I'm just trying to find one (9750X3D). No luck so far, they're out of stock everywhere on-line, and no brick or mortar near me has any. Building my first computer since the early 2000's. Things have changed a little. Thank God for youtube.

What CPU cooler will you use it with?

According to the slides shared by Tom’s Hardware, AMD has now confirmed official performance for its upcoming 8-core Ryzen 7 CPU with 3D V-Cache. Only a few benchmarks were shared from handpicked titles, so this is definitely too early to draw final conclusions.

The 7800X3D has 8 cores, L3 cache of 96MB, TDP rated at 120W and boost clock up to 5.0 GHz. That’s 15W higher TDP than 8-Core Ryzen 7 7700X and 400 MHz lower boost clock compared to non-X3D SKU. This CPU was compared to 24-core Core i9-13900K processor, the second-best Raptor Lake desktop CPU from Intel. What may be important to note is that both the 7800X3D and 13900K systems were equipped with the same DDR5-6000 memory kit.

Today AMD is sharing 1080p gaming performance in competitive titles, such as Rainbow Six Siege, Total War: Three Kingdoms, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn. Given AMD numbers, the 7800X3D would be 13% to 24% faster than the Core i9-13900K. On average, we are looking at 19.5% better performance, but one should remember those are vendor-provided benchmarks so final performance may vary.

Not enough of an uplift over the 5800X3D for me to bother but I will be looking at the 8000 X3D's next year...

Bought mine on Feb 28th, release day.
