What happened to Windows 9?

Guess they really do want to distance themselves from 8, and 9 was too close to the number 8 so they opted to skip it.

Please don't suck, please don't suck, please don't suck...

And for the perv's out there I mean Windows 10.

From blogger Paul Thurrott...

Why "Windows 10"? Windows 9 was the "natural" name for this release, Terry Myerson said, and was indeed the original name. But after joking about a few fake names—like Windows One—he noted that this isn't an incremental release. It's a major new Windows that will run on everything from headless Internet of Things devices to phones to tablets to PCs to the Xbox to the cloud. They really wanted to segregate it from current Windows versions.

Looks good to me, Ill be finally moving away from osx after owning 4 different mac laptop since the g5 days.

At the risk of sounding stupid, what does " headless Internet of Things devices"

even mean? I've never heard that before.

Windows embedded such as smart devices like TV's, appliances, car audio (Ford Sync),etc... that really do not have a "UI" in the traditional sense.

I'm pretty happy with what I've seen so far. There was no way in hell I was going to install Windows 8 on my desktop computer and it looks like Microsoft finally realized that there are a lot of people out there in that boat.

The should have just called it Windows One to be honest. Granted there's already a Windows 1, but spelling it out, would be different and signifies "a whole new era in Windows OS".
Anyways, 90% of the "10" name is pure marketing and to draw some kind of attention headlines to Microsoft, instead of iPhone 6's, Note 4's, and Android L's.

Well atleast Windows 10 will finally have multiple desktops..Linux has had it for what 10 years or so?

Windows 10??? WTF??? :hmm:

Microsoft skipped 9 like Nvidia did with 800 series.

They wanted to go with Windows One, but some dude called William Gates apparently already had that product out a while back. Sounds like a bit of a douche :bleh2:

So they went with 10 instead.

I think just calling it Windows would have been fine. It's not like people don't know what it is
