The future of DCS World by Eagle Dynamics

still saving up for a better video card. I want to get into this game more, but specifically in VR. :D

I once killed ralfi and his friend in multiplayer on 104th .
I am the guy in kill feed right after they both die :)

"maximus_fleximus" :P

Anyone else seen these Virpil controllers? Trying to find things to sell so I can afford a stick and throttle.

I'm looking into the Virpil or VKB stick now. I may put them off for a few months though and upgrade the existing rig first.

I have researched both sticks and they are excellent, but what it comes down to is the companies themselves. Virpil has it's act together and orders are delivered on time with stellar support. Whereas VKB is late as hell and missing deadlines.

If I am going to invest in a stick, it sure as heck going to be the one that lasts.

News from DCS facebook page
DCS World Helicopter Autumn Sale Pack

Starting September 5th, 2018 and lasting until September 30th, 2018, we are offering all four DCS World helicopters for just $69.99! Normally a $199.96 value; this is a 65% saving on each helicopter. DCS World offers some of the most realistic helicopter simulations available on the PC, and nothing compares to the helicopter combat environment that DCS World offers.

I got a question.

I noticed Eagle Dynamics has a new title coming out this fall called "Modern Air Combat" which has all the planes from DCS World and landscapes.

It's essentially DCS World, so, um why the name change?

MAC is an entry level sim, closer to the old flaming cliffs.

The aircraft ( which include the old Flaming Cliffs ones plus newer modules ) will all be survey sims. No deep systems simulation, no interactive cockpits.

The plan would seem to be to catch a market who aren't wanting to spend the time needed to learn the study modules.

Even for those of us with the study modules, there is a certain appeal if we're going to get new campaigns to go with the aircraft.

The MAC features mini versions of the paid maps, you still need the full version for multiplayer. To be honest I'm a little annoyed the Mig21 is being noobified after putting hours into learning it.

Ah, wonderful. Thanks for the responses guys.

I am looking forward to upgrading my rig and getting a baseline Hotas to start training in DCS.

So finally upgraded to the GTX 1080 so I can play this in VR.
After a lengthy discussion, it looks like the Viggen will be my first purchase. Harrier is tempting as well, (as is the F18) but those are so incomplete it makes me a bit leery of jumping on board.

That said, the free F18 weekend let me spend an hour in the cockpit, do a cold start, and fly a jet at low level and speeds around 600kph.

Dream Accomplished. :D

I doubt we’ll see it for years because the latter is still quite new, but I’d love to see an accurate model of the F22 or F35. The technology on those jets should stomp anything else in the game :p

Could be interesting but I've heard so many stories about the level of automation on these aircraft I wonder if they might not be less fun to fly than some of the older birds.

Part of what I loved about the Mig-21 and Mi-8 was the pilot workload.

Expect the F-16 around 2020, according to their current roadmap.
(Along with the F4E Phantom)

I'm thinking I'll go Viggen then F-18. Although a part of me wants to go straight to the F-18....

Yes the F22/F35 are quite automated. Truthfully there is no other jet in the game that could even compare. The stealth capabilities are untouchable and the F22 could target any jet in the game without being seen.

It is automated but that’s what makes it so awesome imo. The technology is fascinating. Having sat in the cockpit of one .. it’s wild.

For fun though nothing beats the WW2 days. Dogfighting was great.

The F-16 would get massacred by an F22/F35. They’d be targeted before they even knew. The F22 is significantly more powerful too, able to chase down and/or run away if by some miracle the F-16 is able to target, which is unlikely.

For those wanting a jet with an interactive cockpit, there's a free community made MB-339/PAN out.
While not as complete as the paid modules, (specifically the flight model needs work, not based on the real plane) it is a lot of fun to fly, and even has some weapons capability. Took it out for a spin in a quick mission after firing it up.

Note you'll have to bind some controls for it, but once you do it works great!
