Starfield - futuristic space exploration sci-fi RPG from Bethesda

As a software project manager, I despise it when Marketing execs set completely unrealistic release dates and make them public. 99.9% of the time, they do that over the objections of the people doing the actual work, who know it either will miss that date or will make the date but be unplayably buggy.

Execs: When can you release?
Dev/QA: When it's done and tested
Execs: Ok, so in 3 months then?
Dev/QA: No way in hell.
Execs: Ok, 3 months it is. I'll tell the press. Good talk.

With Bethesda games, I could almost believe the opposite happened this time.

Maybe not totally unexpected but still ridiculous. They shouldn't have committed to the big 11/11/22 release date a year ago if there was even a slight chance they couldn't make it. Even Todd said the date was in ink. Just more lies... Now we're looking at up to a 7 month delay, maybe more if they slip again. We're still 6 months out from the original date too. Potentially having to wait a year from now to see it release is nuts.

I'm a firm believer that all this work from home **** over the past couple years has destroyed game studio synergy. All the drive and hustle just goes out the door.

It doesn't matter how many months they delay it, we all know it will be a buggy clown fiesta on release regardless.

They do that as a form of "motivation". They think lighting a fire under dev's ass will make them release the product faster without any regard to the quality issues that occur under such pressure.

What's Croberts going to say when he sees a space game that's not only not selling ships for $300 but allowing players to customize their own ship?

But for real, it looks good but my biggest questions are
1. How do they make sure the whole of planet is interesting? Procedural content? The finer parts of skyrim/fallout is how dense it is for exploring
2. Are we getting companions and NPC of the fallout 4 style? Hoping they're just saving that for later as nothing was shown here.
3. Will creatures be duplicated across planets and just named differently? "Kreet Stalker" seems to indicate yes this will happen.

I know the answer to number 2 is yes there is companions and their associated quests.

Problem is, you can still see the gamebyro jank in the demo... which means the same gamebyro bugs and crap when the game comes out. This is definitely a try a year later kind of game.

Looks interesting and I'm keeping my eye on this. But, no way will I be playing at release unless everyone else confirms the bugs are at a minimum.

Also, I'll need to know how the leveling works in this game. I've got no time in my life anymore for RPGs that are pointless to level and upgrade your character build in because all enemies and items level up right along with you. GTFO of here with that garbage. I need to feel rewarded for getting stronger.

Aside from that, could be really fun to explore in but I just hope they find a way to keep exploration interesting. I can see a game like this feeling really baron and empty. It would likely have hot spots of cool stuff to do, but with most of it completely pointless to ever visit. Being able to visit anywhere on the planets, and there's hundreds of them? My guess is most of them are empty and pointless just giving the game an illusion of size and scope.

question. Ive seen a bunch of people talk about it, and reactions to the demo. It's all been super excited, or skyrim level enthusiast excited. Which is fine, maybe my bias against gamebyro gets in the way, but ive seen a bunch of people talking about the combat, and how its looks ok, but they didnt expect much cause its a rpg.

My question is, are they nuts? the combat looks like any generic fps game. Its nothing like any rpg ive seen. It doesnt even look like anything from arcane, or the outer worlds or something. It just looks like a straight fps game.

The fps combat in the trailer looked like it shared DNA with the new Doom and Wolfenstein games. Which makes sense since they are all under the Bethesda umbrella.

Didn't look like anything spectacular, but definitely serviceable. Better than what I remember from the Bethesda Fallout games anyways. I think maybe people are just thinking its above average considering its an RPG?
