The show will premiere in January 2017 with a preview episode on CBS and then, in the U.S., move exclusively to the CBS video on-demand and streaming service, CBS All Access. It’ll be the first developed specifically for the CBS streaming service.

Internationally, the show will “be distributed concurrently for television and multiple platforms.”

So what’s this series going to be about? Here’s all the official press release said:

The brand-new “Star Trek” will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966.
It also added this:

The new television series is not related to the upcoming feature film “Star Trek Beyond,” which is scheduled to be distributed by Paramount Pictures in summer 2016.

Im amazed it took this long for a new show...

Cool, will definitely watch unless it's really low budget crap like that last movie, called Renegades I think...

Doesn't really say what this is about.

If there's going to be a new series, it needs to be back in the current timeline (post TNG/DS9/Voyager).

I don't give a crap about the 60's setting anymore or "alternate timeline" or endless origin stories like 'Enterprise'. Plus how many times are you going to remake Kirk and Spock?

Yeah, screw a reboot, or some Kirk age stuff. They tried that the last time, and it flopped hard. Just pick up from the current timeline, because it's not like there wasn't enough material in that era for them to work with.

What's this BS about you can only watch it if you pay for their stupid monthly streaming service? It's like they're trying to make it fail.

It's on their TV channel and the streaming service, it's not just on one or the other.
For the US it says the preview episode will air on TV, then the rest of the series will be exclusively on their own streaming service.

Looking forward to this, I liked Enterprise mostly except for the last few episodes. Hoping it's most like Voyager

I can swear I read it'll be released "initially" for the streaming service which most likely means it'll also be broadcast on TV.

Fail CBS... FAIL!

I'll just download it then. :bleh:

I hope Luke and Gandalf are in this one. Narnia was no fun without them.

Alex Kurtzman, co-writer of 2009’s Star Trek and its sequel Star Trek Into Darkness, will executive produce

Trek is trek though, so I'll still watch like the slutty geek whore I am.

Dude the Borg Collective assimilated everyone in the current Trek timeline...the Borg Collective rules the Galaxy.

I really liked Enterprise t.v. series...they even stepped up budget and were using some really cool CGi to render characters away from "human in makeup" plus Vulcan chicks were hot...if a human was stressed out all he had to do was ask for a "logical" solution and they were very perceptive to solve that stress.

It's funny how many of the old Star Trek films were made and yet the new ones ended up irking or splitting fans.

Maybe they'll keep rebooting like they did with Spider man...which had sucky reboots.

Wut? The borg collective was effectively shattered in First Contact. Can't assimilate anybody if your own borgs now see themselves as individuals.

Besides, there was already talk years ago of new trek series in the current timeline involving Starfleet Academy. That never took off, though seems like a great premise.

Since they're describing this new series as a new set of characters exploring the universe, this highly indicates a new Enterprise. I think all versions were covered in previous films and series.

I would like to see a time line where the last TNG episode jumped between timelines, the future timeline of that episode. The new improved enterprise and Riker maybe as the captain...

That would be cool. I want new tech from a new trek show.
