Is it just me or all new cars look the same from a brand.

All Mercedes now look the same.
All BMWs look the same.
All Audis look the same.
All Porsche look the same.
All Range Rovers look the same.

There is just too much standardization in cars now. Very little incentive to upgrade up unless you need some space. Heck even engines are largely similar.

Think auto manufacturers are just being lazy. Wdyt?

You can thank all the safety and carbon footprint regulations.

RIP rad car designs.

it's not only in the brands itself, it's spread across all brands. Heck, most cars, when seen from the back, will look almost identical. Also f*ck these fake exhaust bs

Agree even across brands cars starting to look very similar. The whole brand identity nonsense has gotten all cars to look the same. Apart from some new McLarens, Ferraris or Lamborghinis; nothing actually looks new. Some electric stuff is decent (but most are prototypes).

Eh, I'm not seeing it. Things look different across brands to me.

Within brands? Yeah, they've all been moving toward similar "design language" within their brands for the last 10 years. It's not really a shock at this point. :lol:

Porsche :rolleyes: .... riffing on essentially the same design endlessly. Both cool and kinda weird.

Porsche Audi VW => very similar
Chevy, GMC => very similar
Jeep, Dodge => very similar

Same design language was never THIS bad.

At least they mostly look different.

I think Audi is the worst offender for "sameness" within the brand.

Their fascias have now got to the point where its a litereal cut + paste + scale job just to fit an SUV or car body.
And then the bodies are just scaled up/down to fit the segment.

One of the concerns about cars going the electrification route is the commonality between all of them. No longer have engines to discern....more about the shell put on top of the battery...

Having said that....and I know influenced by where I am....I'm shocked by how many kids these days don't care about driving...they take Ubers and Lyft everywhere...with how expensive insurance is for new drivers, does feel like there is less enthusiasm for cars as compared to when I was 16 and could not wait to drive.

well, nowadays there are a lot more options than we had in our youth. All big manufactors are aiming for e-mobility, so there's that. And with that the "cars" will lose even more of their "identity", different brands won't be recognizable at one point. The question is: What's more important to you? Setting yourself apart from others or the quality of the car itself?

why not both?

I don't know I just don't feel excited to see new cars anymore. The last car that truly excited me was the SF90 Ferrari. Even the F8 Tributo was like whatever.

Porsche is like whatever - oh so they added the light bar on this model as well. Panemara etc. are also all boring. Everything coming out of Ford is trash and I like Ford (I own 2 of them :nuts: ).

Just all around my excitement level has really waned over the past few years and 2020 was really a crap year for any new cars.

The only one that had some cool stuff in it was Lucid Air and Polestar but after seeing reviews of Polestar I don't know who is the poor SOB who will buy it. Tesla is like buy plastic for 80,000 bucks and their S model is so long in the tooth now.

So yeah, just all around very poor showing of cars. I think S class with a tablet like screen was the biggest "innovation" of 2020. Which in itself is so sad.

Another part of the problem is now vehicles are decent at everything. Handling, solidness, reliability, ride, comfort, fit/finish, looks are all decent, even in the cheapest of cars.

Its harder to stand out.

Ironically, this is hwere design would come into play.
