Return to Castle Wlofenstein on a Rage Mobility M1 8 Meg video card??

Hi all :)

Has anybody sucessfully ran RTCW on a 8 meg Mobility M1? I can seem to. I get maybe a half a frame a second. The sound also skips all over the Place. I know the minimum sys requirements call for a 16 meg video card, but I was able to get this to run on a old 4 meg voodoo 1 years ago along side a 380mhz K6 2. It looked like crap but it ran, lol. I thought maybe this would run on this M1 since it has double the video ram, a Pentium 3 700 mhz cpu, and 512 megs of ram. I tried playing with things like soundmegs and hunkmegs(read tweaking tutorials) to no avail.:D

Thanks for any help!

Hi Big Z :)

Sorry I took so long to respond! I have been using your drivers now for a while, and I love them! Thank you!

Im sure the reason is because the card is a 8 meg and the game calls for 16 megs. I do notice that the open gl performance is this card is sub par. The card is old, this laptop is old, and I dont expect much.

Only thing that threw me for a loop is I got the game to run somewhat decently with everything turned down once on a 4 Meg 3dfx voodoo 1 card with a much slower system.

Believe it or not, I did not give up after this. I got RTCW to work perfectly after installing SciTech GLDirect. I did not even know about this little gem, and it's been around for quite a few years! Scitech does not make this anymore, and believe it or not, its now free :)

So with Z's drivers and GLDirect, Im playing RTCW nicely on my old lappy :)

I got return to castle wolfenstein to run beautifly on my lil' ATI Mobility M1 8 meg using Z's drivers AND SciTech's GLDIRECT. I never knew about this little gem untill a few days ago. It has a 21 day trial, but i just saw that the program has been discontinued, and is now free! They even have a code you can enter to turn it into the full version and remove the time limit. Thank you SciTech!!!

Looks like OpenGL is disabled from the registry. Search for "opengl" in the registry. Should look something like openglenabled or something along those line. Change the value so that its enabled.

my m4 can't run it :(

it's all skippy.

though it runs just as well with UT2004 :D

ediT: havent tried these drivers though.. ;)

I found that if I used the TV out, regardless of the frame rate on the laptop I got useable play.

Why? I have no idea!

Think you can grab some screenshots? I would like to know what it looks like on 8mb :)

Jim

I remember those drivers!!!!

Ah, nothing like getting things to run on aging pc's, I kinda miss when you had to mess around to get things working, sure its nice things just 'work' these days, but i have to be honest, its made me loose interest in the pc a lot, used to love tweaking things to make it run smoother!
