If I use D3D Acceleration in Grim Fandango, Manny, the guy I play, dissapears all the time...
If I use True Color in Rent a hero (2D-game) I can't see the movies anymore, only a black screen...

Thanks for your help!!!

Sounds like you've got outdated or bad drivers. What version do you have?

The Grim Fandango thing is a known issue. Make sure you have ATI driver 6076 or 6114. Then you need to adjust the Z buffer depth. Read about it in detail here: http://support.atitech.ca/infobase/3213.html

Better yet download and use LS2000 drivers. Much better than any of ATI's combos. (You may still have to do the z-buffer thing.)

The other problem sounds to be driver related also. There are some issues with 2D in some of the ATI drivers. Seemed to come and go the old one didn't the new one does and the next new one didn't.) Again get the latest ATI drivers 6114 or (better yet) LS2000 drivers.

Scott, thank you very much for your help!

Sorry, forgot that: I use the r128_620cdh28 drivers...thought these are the newest...

Do the LS2000 drivers have the new OpenGL ICD?

Yes. I'e got a P3 and use the LS2000 6155Ci drivers. Older (read stable) 2D drivers, and the latest OGL and almost the latest D3D files. (There is one later version of the D3D files, but I've heard there's an issue with polygon corruption. For a list of the available LS2000 drivers go to: http://www.lightspeed2000.com/lsatibeta.html or http://www.lightspeed2000.com/lsatibeta.html

From the filename, I think the drivers you are using are one rev back special purpose or beta ATI drivers. The best Ati drivers I've used are the 6114 released ones. The ATI beta and special purpose driver's have had issues on my machine.

Good luck!

Scott

Scott, thank you very much.
The Grim Fandango thing works!
I'll try these LS2000 drivers for the 2D Problem over the weekend!

Don't bother downloading Drivers when you can try somthing really faster :
Go to the D3D Tab of display properties and and chose 16bits Z-buffer : many games don't support 32 bits Z-buffer !

The Z buffer to fix Grim was in the first reply. The new drivers were suggested to fix his 2D corruption issues, which likely wouldn't be affected by the Z buffer depth.

After all this years, the problem still persists :( Oh well, I think my Rage Fury goes to the trash.
