Official 6x00 Stock Thread(or lack thereof)

Microcenter doesn't even have a placeholder for this. At least for the 30XX cards they had listings but out of stock by the end of the first day.

Glad I didn't make a big deal out of NV's poor launch. AMD's is looking like a drip... drip... instead of the trickle Nvidia managed.

Maybe they'll find a kink in the hose, straighten it out, and the market will be flooded with new Radeons.

Only people I've seen get it on discord got it on amd's website or amazon with a bot. That's it.

Just like Baldric on Blackadder (it was a British comedy series starring Rowan Atkinson) I've come up with a cunning plan. Spoke to a colleague at work who I know lives next door to and is a big friend of a guy who owns an independent computer retailer business. From what I can gather he's not big enough to deal with AIB's direct so he goes through a distributor/wholesaler. Anyway a few whatsapp tweets later and he's given my details to his Sales Manager and asked me to contact him Tuesday afternoon and if they get stock they'll do a deal.

As he sources from a distributor that is going to add some cost and obviously I'm not going to get mates rates. It will be full retail. So I'm hoping for £749 to £779 and I'll do a deal. Any more than that then I'll wait till things become more normalised in a couple of months.

Hopefully, unlike Baldric's cunning plans that always went wrong this one works out. If it doesn't then I'll just buy whichever card I can when's its available. I don't really need to upgrade but I've decided I will so not a rational purchasing decision

Just so it doesn't magically disappear a post from a closed thread.

To try and be a bit more fair I think it's clear that in AMD's early planning they knew they had 0% of the enthusiast GPU market and they knew that Nvidia with 100% of the segment were launching the 30 series in the same quarter. They will have then set themselves a target of how many 6800 sales they could realistically make coming from a non existant base. They would have realistically set a target of 2 to 3% over say the first 6 months and an optomistic market share of 10% over the life of the card (obviously these are just made up numbers). That would then have fed into their production schedule and this would have been set months in advance of the launch.

As they are also producing the Xbox, PS5 and Zen 3 it would probably have left them very little wriggle room in re crunching the numbers. Then they saw what happened with the 3080/90 and two weeks later the 3070 launch. I bet they thought oh sh*t. Now instead of maybe 2% of the market being a target there was probably 10x that number who couldn't get a 30 series card and would now consider a 6800. Unfortunately they would have then known there was no way they could meet this huge demand as the production numbers would have been written in stone and unable to be changed. So this was a perfect sh*t storm that unfortunately they would have had no way of predicting during their production scheduling.

At this point they could have come out and told the truth about the situation asked for people's patience whilst they tried to address the issue. Like they mention in the article Pax posted they could have come up with an EVGA type system to ensure the right people got the cards they did have without all the frustrations.

The rest as they say is history as we all know what they chose to do. Add in the stupid bet from Frank Azor and then his moronic tweet about buying a 6800 that the whole pack of cards collapsed. Don't lie to your consumers as that never ends well as Apple has found out with the Jobs arial issues, bendgate and ofc Nvidia's gimped 970 memory to name but a few.

So where does that leave us with 6800 availabilty? In the short term little to non existant and in the medium term a little better but the chances of any of us geting one in 2020 is looking remote unless we get very very lucky.

Obviously, all opinions are my own. Just my 2c's.

This whole thing is a huge missed opportunity for everyone. I wish AMD had done something to manage expectations about how much stock they actually had on its way.

With this, I'm glad I decided on the 5700XT rather than getting a base 5600 as a stop-gap in waiting for Big Navi.

The youtubers with real industry contacts seems to think that it's going to be an ampere launch 2.0 situation.

Oops regarding #7 I forget to mention scalper scum. Neither AMD or Nvidia would have imagined scalpers would have been interested in graphics cards costing £700+. It seems that almost 50% or more are buying the cards and instantly trying to sell them on Ebay for at least 2x the money. They don't even want to open the box they just want to make a profit. We called out miners for buying cards but at least they used them. These scum don't care and use bots to buy as many as they can.

Unfortunately it's now attracting the clueless and one guy thought he'd bought a 6800XT off Overclockers UK, set up a new EBAY account and then posted his receipt with all his personal details on asking for £1,599  Went viral on the forum and his card purchase was immediately cancelled and he tried to take down his account but not before they scraped his picture and personal details. Serves him right.

scott herkelman said in that video they like what EVGA did and are talking to and trying to get other AIB's to do it

unknown if they will

but would be great if Asus, MSI and the rest did

Latest news from Gibbo at Overclockers UK. They've shipped all the 65 cards they got at launch and are expecting 100 next week presumably AIB he doesn't clarify. YEAH. Rock on AMD. At this rate they might be able to fix RT making cards crash intermittently before their are any cards sold. Yeah. Oops think my cunning plan has just gone up in smoke

Bill they work for AMD  They tell you want you want to hear and what they've been told to say otherwise they lose their jobs. Simples. Total BS from AMD. They have zero control over AIB's as they have very few AMD only AIB's and they can't pi*s of the Nvidia also AIB's or their basically screwed. Same goes for retailers do you really think they'd tell AIB's to stop providing them to retailers who don't stop scalping?? I like a nice cup of Americano in the morning when I wake up

Even worse than I thought. From Gibbo for next week

195 total:
95pc Sapphire
100pc Powercolor

These are 6800 None XT’s!

WTF AMD are screwed here, if that's it. No XT's. Really? Wow. Major clusterf*ck  Buy a console instead.. oh wait they aren't available either.

I'm looking for a 3080 thanks AMD.
