nVidia allows Omega to continue

Looks like the big N has decided to allow Omega to continue with nVidia driver modding.

Here is the post at DriverHeaven and here the news at Omega Corner.

It looks like the pressure is too big for them. The recent statements about cheat removing are also showing new winds.

I think those are good news for all us hardware enthusiasts.

It's actually good to see that some of the pressure that has been put on nVidia by the community as a whole might be beginning to pay off - Let's hope nVidia have learned some valuable lessons from the last 12 months.

NV3X has crapped out. Now NVidia needs to rebuild their reputation in expectation of NV4X, which will, hopefully, be able to compete fairly with the competition.

I am not as hopeful about NVidias seeming about face as you are Hanners.

"After reports of instability stemming from the third party drivers, we requested the drivers be removed from the website distributing them."
This says that Omega was at fault; not the core drivers he had to work off of. This is lawyerspeak for Our drivers have no problems: The only problems that exist with NVidia drivers are when a 3rd party alters them.

"Only the drivers which users had complained about were asked to be removed from the website and we also asked for our logo to be removed to ensure that end users were not confused as to the origin of the drivers and subsequently the risk involved with using them."

Ever known a set of drivers that at least two people did not complain about? In other words: We can pull these anytime our drivers are so bad we need to blame Omega for all our driver faults and try and use this to try and misdirect the entusiast community.

"NVIDIA does not, in any way, condemn the development of third party drivers; quite the opposite. We recognize the importance of third party drivers and for this reason we have not asked for work on the specific driver to cease. Our action is intended solely to ensure that the origin of the driver is clearly stated and the end user is made fully aware of the risks they take installing them."

Again they are just saying that our drivers are fine that it is only Omegas that are causing problems.

Anybody that found their way to Omegas site could not help but know that his drivers were a third part mix with his own tweaks. Since any problems in NVidias own core drivers could show up with Omegas; the most likely problems in Omegas would stem from the NVidia core drivers.

I find only NVidia serving speak here. Just more of the same NVidia misdirection to try and blame a man who is trying to provide a driver that can actually run with acceptable IQ in spite of NVidias attempts for the ideal of "Speed over IQ" at any cost.

Yup, and we all know we can't believe they've REALLY changed unless they send me a card to try out their new drivers on..... ;)

If Nvidia removes their unfair "optimizations" and gives Omega the right to do his stuff again I'll be content. I don't need an apology or an explanation. Doing the right thing is what matters most and if they undo their wrongdoings they will start rebuilding my TRUST in their product.

An apology along with it would would be nice and could start to rebuild my RESPECT for their company but they don't need my respect as long as they make good competing product.

There are alot of hardware companies whom I do not particularily like, but I buy their products simply because they make good hardware.

We have to thank all of the Outspoken members of our community for this turn of events. If it were not for people like HB, DoomTrooper, Digitalwanderer, Hanners, Shark, Dave Baumann and countless others...,going out and speaking about the wrongdoings to anyone that would listen, this turnaround would not be happening as most of of the hardware review sites did jack sh*t, tucked their tails between their legs and ran!!

I'd say the dammage is done. They should have contacted Omega and clarified some of their concerns first (Logo use, ect.) but they did'nt, they decide they would use a big-boy attitude instead.

Obviously now they are backtracking and trying to put a spin on things as to try and control the dammage they have done.
It's not working, you fsucked up again nVidia.
