I had bought my computer about 3 months ago and was really annoyed with the rage fury card they supplied with the computer since almost all the games did not run, they just crashed to the desktop just as the game was about to load. After many letters to ATI and a few trips the technical assistance, i formated the HD and reisntalled Windows 98. The first thing i did was install some games i knew didn't work before ansd to my surprise they worked fine, no problems with any of them (well i found some minor graphic problems that i corrected installing new drivers from ATI). I then started installing all the aplications i had on before. While i was doing this i checked if the games where working ok. They did until i installed Panda Antivirus 6.0 Platinum. Then the games stoped working again. Having found the source of my problem i then tried to get around it. This antivirus runs a computer start-up scan (that is, before it runs windows). So i removed the lines from autoexec.bat that make this happen and restarted the computer. To my surpriesd everything was back to normal the antivirus runs ok and the games have never being better.
I just wanted to tell this long story so that people with the same symptoms can try and fix the problem. I really suggest removing all the applications and doing what i did, step by step. I guess the computer starup scan was taking up dos upper memory and so the games did not have enough memory to run.
