It is just ridiculous! (NV40 related)

So nVidia does it again, the NV35 is out and the rumours start again, NV40 said to be twice as fast as the NV35 (anyone remember NV30 = 2X Geforce 4???)
I think ATI should state their R420 will be 20x faster than a Radeon. (do not specify which, you'll never lie ;) )

If already reported, give a link, I checked first here, and on general radeon, but there is room for error :D

Hehehe good one. But aren't there only 3 radeon high end generations? R100, R200, R300??? So you'd have to compare to the radeon32MB i think as the lowest :p and that was gf2/gf2ultra class!!
Perhaps 10x only :p

No way. Let ATi do what they've been doing.

No way. Let ATi do what they've been doing.

Let nVidia dig a hole for themselves just as deep as they want to, I just hope ATi keeps doing what they've been doing and shooting straight with their customers. :)

OK, but you do know ATI will never have uninformed/underinformed people buying their cards, I bet my uhm, do I have anything valuable? ... No, I bet my most left finger there are already nVidiots saving up their money to buy this card just because NV says 2x NV35. In a few years they'll have them trained (or is it house broken?) like MS has me trained for IE6, they'll just have to say "our card is better" and they'll sell 100,000 cards more.

Ooga Booga. I think ATI is wise to allow their cards to speak for themselves. The OEMs know what's what. The brick and mortar retailers seem to be getting clued in too. So if a clue bag goes looking for a card because he "knows" Nvidia is da bomb, he might get a rude awakening/education to find that the stores are carrying the ATi stuff in greater variety than nvidia stuff. When Circuit City is carrying lots of ATI cards (all BBA) then I think it's safe to say that ATI have made some progress with their position in the market. Having the 5800 and as yet the 5900 being vapor-ware (funny that term is usually reserved for software) helps a lot. Nvidia does not have anything in the market for the high-end. Even die-hard nvidiots know that.

it's BS, Nvidia is just trying to use hype to try to make people forget about the 3dmark incident.

to me, it's a sign of a company that knows they are in trouble

I look at the brightside to it all now.

I look at the brightside to it all now.

From what originally got me into posting so much, helping people fix their viddy card problems, it should be a VERY good thing. :)

Just think, all the idiots are going to fall for the hype and buy these pieces of crap...the smart types will be picking up ATi.

So the quality of the average ATi user should be improving, while I already have pity on the poor folks who are going to have to be telling SO many people why their "directX 9 compliant" 5200 can't run any games worth spit.

Who would you rather help on the boards? ;)

I tried to convince this guy that a radeon 8500 was better than a geforce 3 ti200. Won't make the same mistake twice.

I need help, I don't help :D, maybe a little I always suggest to buy ATI, so I'm helping in a way :)
It is good for rage3D too, I guess, smart discussions and all.
No time to make a longer post, lunch is ready!
edit: I think you are right about ATI getting smarter people, but what does ATI really get out of it? I think this matters most because if ATI doesn't get enough out of it it might dissappear (I know they have been around for longer than nVidia, but there aggressive way has got them further in a shorter time) or make lesser products.(I don't think ATI spends as much money on products as nVidia as it is, making less money might influence production, or nVidia might pull ahead because of the extra budget)
btw: I am more of a pessimist, but sometimes I can be a big optimist, it is weird but that is who I am :)

I made this post in another thread, but it's probably appropriate here too:

The rumour on the street is that R420 (or 'Loci') will be twice as fast as R300, so it makes sense that nVidia will be aiming for the NV40 to be twice as fast as the NV35.

The worrying thing (for ATi) is that if nVidia can match ATi's speed in an NV40 vs R420 comparison, NV40 will likely come out well and truly on top when it comes to the feature set.

We're still a way off knowing anything solid about either card though, so it's just all pure speculation at present.

twice as fast as NV35 ahhaha..
thatd be easier than u think
and digi, i cant wait for the people with low end dx9 cards to start complaining! :D

*edit- spelling mistake :bleh:

Do you know when ATI will come out with their new R420?
Do you think they might wait for the NV40 to be released, to see what it is capable of?
twice as fast in Dx9 applications I guess because I don't think such a big jump is possible in Dx8. (it would mean 3dmark03 to jump to 32000, somehow I doubt the figure  ) Anyway wait and see is the best we can do.

The phrase I've heard is 'at least twice as fast as R300 across the board'. How much of that is true I don't know - And of course it's early days yet, that figure is just what ATi are aiming for, not necessarily what they will be able to achieve.

As for when it will be released, it could be any time from this Fall to early next year, but to be honest I think the beginning of 2004 is a more reasonable timescale to expect to see it hitting stores (maybe with a paper launch in Q3 of this year).

Why did my thread get moved in this forum, nobody will come visit it

Paper launch and benchmarks should be for this year than, unless R360 is slowing down R420.
I thought fall was 'reserved' for R360.(actually beeing in the stores)

ok guys we all have seen this PR from nVidia before..... if the nV40 is twice as fast as the nV35 it will not be able to compete with what ATi is doing.........

Location: You know, I have not been able to figure that out yet, but when I do, I am sure you will be the last person to know about it. Oh drat I actually live next to your house

I thought there was a nasty smell coming from my bin...:D

If I was in the market for a graphics card it would definately be an ATI Radeon R420; subject to the trend in subsequent high end graphics cards becoming more and more unjustifiably expensive.

Most likely :)

If it is twice as fast then in pixel shader 2.0 tests it will be just behind a year old (or by then 18 month old) 9700 pro.. keep up the good work nvidia !:D
