Is the Guide Plus still up and working?

OK, silly question but the answer may save me a bunch of time
Is the Guide Plus still up and working?

I've got a XPsp2 / AIW 9600 / MMC 9.08 that I use to record all my analog cable shows. As you know, its a finicky program, so I don't mess with it much, but I did over the holidays and I broke it. I lost all sound. So I restored from a ghosted backup and now I cant get Guide Plus to connect. Uninstall and reinstalling does not help. Since its occasionally down, I wasn't too worried, but it hasn't reconnected. This is the first time I used the ghost to reinstall this drive, but everything else is working fine. I don't know if its the ghost image, Guide plus is down or I'm looking at a fresh install..

I did some checking around and read some reports about guide plus going all digital. Could we lose this service? I've been manually inputting the scheduling as needed, but its a pain.

My Guide Plus+ has been down since Dec 14 as well.
anybody know if the URL changed ?

any of you who have it still working could you please post the url.

in the window start menu click "Run"
in the run box type "regedit"

go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Gemstar\ETV\URL

my current setting is: http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp
I'm curious if this has changed and some of us have missed the update??

I've been using Guide Plus with my Theater 550 Pro for a couple of years. My computer crashed on Friday (Jan 9, 2009) and I had to completely reload. After reinstalling everything, I can't get Guide Plus to connect for updates or to download listings. I just keep getting messages that there is something wrong with my internet connection. I'm running Windows XP/SP3 which I was using before the system crashed.

I've not been able to update my guide plus+ either.
It quit updating mid December.
If anybody's is still updating could you please verify the URL your software is using.
The address is stored in the Gemstar windows registry entries.

to get there go to your windows start menu, click run
type in "regedit"

go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Gemstar\ETV\URL
my system is pointing to: http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp

It will update the ad photos, but not the tv listings.
:(

Thesuarus1,

Could you do what 3431291 suggested and check the URL your registry is pointing at. There are probably two slightly different addresses. I think that one is for the TV listings and one is for version updates.

Thanks,
Mike

I just reinstalled and i find GuidePlus will not update, It just states "Failed to connect to the server"

The funny thing is if i run the TV and click in the icon in the TV control panel that would bring up GuidePlus it now brings up TV TV2PC and wants a logon for the service. This is new.

I am running a special setup here. I have a AIW 2006, i installed CAt 5.2, and then updated the WDM TV Tuner driver and pointed to the disk that came with the card. Then installed MMC 9.03. then Gemstar.
This way i still use the analog driver and the sound is realtime and timeshift works.

I just never had any trouble with guide+ before so i looked here and find that other are having trouble also.

Update:
I went to my old (last backup image) of my system and i found the following info in the URL.bin file.
http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp
http://152.101.67.132/gdndl/gdnget2.asp
I edited my registry and the update worked but only for the ads and stuff not the TV listings.

Lets hope someone who has it still working will post the link info.

Rainey

Thats the same as in my registery....:hmm: :hmm:

And updated ok again..

********************************************

That link you confrimed is for the program update not the TV listings update, the other address listed in the same location in registry is the one for TV listings and you did not check or post that one.

What i get when i download the guide after correcting the links, is the following message.
"No listings data available for the current date, please check your system date and zip code/postal code."

The links provided above allowed me to connect to the server, but I am now getting the same message that Rainey is getting about no listings being available. I've noticed that it is not allowing me the option to choose my channel lineup again. This may be why I can't get listings. I'm going to search for a registry entry that might deal with this.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll post again if I can solve this issue.

Mike

Can we make sure we are comparing apples to apples? Perhaps working Guide Plus users have a different/updated version.
Which version of MMC ands Guide plus are each of you using?

Guide Plus

Guide Plus

I went to the ATI site to discover that Guide Plus is now owned by Macrovsion. I then went to the Macrovision site only to discover that Guide Plus is no longer available for North America....Only Europe. So as far as that nice little program that came free with my ATI All-IN-Wonder card...it's history. So you can stop banging your head against the wall trying to configure your computer.

It was nice while it lasted.

I'm running version 1.0.0.53 of Guide Plus and version 9.16 of MMC. My hardware is a Sapphire Theatrix 550 Pro tuner card and a Gigabyte 780GX chipset motherboard. Everything was working well until the system crashed last Friday and I had to rebuild it. I normally download the weekly files on Friday, but I never got to do it last week. The last time that I successfully downloaded the listings was Jan 2, 2009.

guess what everyone? i have two systems side by side, with guide plus installed. when i reloaded one i had this problem but i worked around by copy/pasting the whole directory over the network from the working one. after reading this i went in and manually changed all registry entries to match the working one and viola! the clincher seems to be hkey-local machine/software/gemstar/etv/config/cmid, mine is 000019bb, (in addition to the url changes above), and ....etv/channel lineup/initialize=1. no promises, good luck! no doubt we are being phased out, its just a matter of time.

Well i tried it also and i still get the no listings availble message.
I copyed the whole Gemstar directory and i at least get a grid (the old last downloaded database listings) that has all the channels listed but for Oct-08 and it don't update and so i can not even use the guide program as it is.

It might be that only a few area (Zip codes) are still working, maybe put up a zip codes if you have it working.

Hello, Well since there has been VERY Little chatter posted about guide plus and now all of the sudden this post thread (for a relatively old product speaking) is on FIRE!

Ok, starting over with firefox:
On or about Jan 9th I started the Guide Plus ver 1.0.0.50 program and it went berserk. Guide plus started flashing / flickering, the windows error chime kept going off, CPU utilization went to 100%. The program was unresponsive and wouldn't X close out. I had to use task manager a few times to get it to stop running. I tried it again and the same thing happened. I restarted the system and tried it again...same thing; Periodically over the next week I tried it just to see if it "found itself" LOL - it didn't. 8-(

I un-installed using Add/remove programs and selected to REMOVE it. Then I rebooted, and reloaded it from the CD. Started the program and asked for the name/email\Zipcode fine but when it prompted to get new listings it would just time out giving me this error: "Message
Failed to connect to the server.
Please check the internet connection and try to download again" - Same as some one else posted.

I decided to un-install all ATI products and start from a semi-clean slate. I again used Add/remove programs to take out the Display drivers, DAO, decoder, Guide Plus, Titan TV, MMC, etc and then I ran Driver Cleaner Pro. (However, there is no specific Guide plus setting in it). I rebooted into safe mode re-ran DC Pro and got the last parts out and then manually removed the GEMSTAR folder in (PROGRAM FILES). Rebooted into XP, then reloaded the Display Catalyst 5.01 / WDM, DAO, Decoder, MMC 9.08 (with several appropriate restarts in there). Everything was working fine as it had before (this was the way it was set up before). I then installed Guide Plus and had the SAME problem as before...failing to connect to the server.

After I said a few choice words, I tried about 2 hours worth of other versions of Guide Plus, Catalyst, MMC etc. Then, in researching I noticed that A LOT of the Guide Plus information on sites has been archived. And i found nothing helpful in 10+ pages of ATI knowledge base posts with "guide plus" in them. I continued to search and have been for hours. A lot of sites have archived or deleted there old ATI A-I-W threads so finding good information has been in short supply. ThEn I FoUnD tHiS tHrEaD!!!! It seems rather odd that for such an old program it would all of the sudden have a number of people having similar problems, after the topic being rather quiet for so long. So Glad i found this site. I signed up to share what my experience has been and based on what you said, I did the following.

I have a number of computers around that have A-I-Wonder cards or TV tuner cards. So i fired up one that has been off-line for a number of months. I started up Guide Plus version 1.0.0.45 and downloaded the updated file. It worked as PeRfEcTlY as Guide Plus ever does. It got the new updates through 1/25/09 and I checked a few shows and it is correct! So the updates are still there and coming. Was there some kind of bug or glitch that came down in the past few weeks/months that caused the problems? Since the program is/ and always has been prone to crashes (i can't tell you how many times i've done the above process) BUT never before has that failed to correct a cranky Guide plus.

So thanks to your REG key suggestion (and I had done a search with REG EDIT but without your pin pointing them I was getting No where so thank you again) i was able to compare the non-working version. Many of the Reg settings only had the URL pointing to gemstar...there were no h t t p 144.198.100....entries. So I started there by copying what was on the good machine in the URL section:
I took a shot and copied over and had to create one missing string, but like some of you, it went through the motions and contacted the server, downloaded the advertisements but failed to show any new TV updates. So that's progress. It made contact with the server...but something else is still not correct. (in the version that wasn't working all the URL's were to text gemstarguide.com....

Ok, sorry no matter what i try I can't get this to post my Registry settings in a graph i made. Anything with ##'s and too many periods even when i take out the hyper text and dots and co s ....Sorry i'll try and post after i get some more posts under my belt. It would have been nice if the thread sent up an error like most do saying no urls rather than posting & deleting so as to lose all I wrote. GRRRRRR!

EDIT: this wouldn't post at first. I've gone back through and corrected some of the differences between the two postings. Wow, its hard to recreate a post but they were pretty much the same. Thank you moderator for extra work i created for you. I was far too impatient. The graph is below. However a futher update on the two working versions there is no ab | 2 | ...so that doesn't seem to be a factor and may be a result of registry settings left over from a previous install or different version of Guide plus. As for a brief time I had version 1.0.0.32 installed and that was in the second position elsewhere in the registry. i've deleted all those stings and they can't help and may only cause conflicts. We've already got enough of those.

I tried very hard to copy this correctly, but caught a few mistakes already...yours may be different.
?? = Dword Value
144.198.100.134 & 135 on the next line is not an error.

That's better; i'm now able to post the graph and URLS etc. it's now 5:11AM here so more mistakes and I've completely lost my trains of thought a dozen times.
=====================================================================================
But even after copying/changing or adding in the entries above in the URL section of the registry it still only downloads and updates the advertisements...not the TV shows. So it must be some of the other Registry settings (someone above mentioned some that they changed) and I'm going to try the ones they listed first. But at least it's making progress. It no longer times out & tells me there something wrong with my connection. I wonder if the Gemstarguide.com/gdndl/gdnget.asp address is supposed to update the other URL's; I can't get that address to come up, so if it is supposed to provide the other ones (you know like with the current downloading addresses)...then it's possible from now on if we do a clean installation we'll have to edit in the correct urls in the 1,2 settings, and maybe change some other registry values. Just thinking out loud. I won't know for sure unless i do an install of guide plus on a system it's never been on before.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I updated the ones spinja 187 edited I changed this one first .../ETV/ChanelLineup/INITIALIZE 0x00000001 (1)
but my setting for this one was different 0x0000821a (33306) .../ETV/CONFIG/CMID
EDIT: CMID appears to relate to YOUR exact downloading guide. SO DON"T JUST COPY the ones we've posted, b/c on the two working systems I have (one running 1.0.0.50 and the other 1.0.0.45) they both listed the 0x00000821a (33306). And if I select the I want to change line settings (from the username, email, zipcode page) this Value is changed.
After I changed both i went into GP and stupidly clicked the box to select the line up again...when i came back it had messed up my CMID settings. I corrected them and went back to GP this time it downloaded the TV listings BUT still failed to render them on the grid. (it now goes through the processing 0-100% too but just fails to post the listing). IT DOES HOWEVER, now start the TV program like it used to and is supposed to SO more progress. Now when it gets to the end of the process - (building list - which it wasn't doing before) it now gives me the message: "No listings data available for the current date, please check your system date and zip code/postal code"
Of course those things are all correct...I know someone else posted that they are getting that error. I just noticed that the Building list goes by WAY WAY too fast compared to how long it used to take to delete and update the TV listings...it happens now in a matter of 5 seconds instead of up to a minute or two previously. It's like a stop watch so maybe things aren't quite right with what it downloads but it does seem to be getting the full TV listing now; i watch it download 1258 KB.

I tried spinja187's CMID value 19bb hexidecimal - (6587) EDIT: see above this would not have fixed anything for me as they are local settings for him. It won't hurt but isn't the key to what's wrong.

i tried changing my second ab| 2 |value in the URL part of the registry from ...135 to the address someone else listed....but it didn't matter i got the same result.
Further, when I click the box (on the download page that says I want to select my line up) that is what reverts my .../ETV/CONFIG/CMID value to the all messed up state of 0x000000fffff (and a bunch of numbers here)... ALSO this gives me the error message about not being able to connect to the sever. So...CMID appears to be responsible for that.

WHAT I NEED NOW, is the registry section and values that actually render the newly downloaded TV listings on to the graphic display. At this point I seem to be in the same place as Rainey provided his downloads the TV listings and builds the list too (and its the final rendering of the list that fails)....
EDIT: That second value appears to be related to another version of TV Guide that I tried to install and run, it's not necessary and you may actually have a number of these if you've installed more than one version of Guide Plus. I subsequently deleted it there and where it appears elsewhere to avoid any conflicts.

So far between the three versions I've seen the registry's pretty well line up. The end values may differ a bit but so far it doesn't seem to be an issue with one but across the board.

I then went to the Macrovision site only to discover that Guide Plus is no longer available for North America....Only Europe. Well, the take over happened in May of 2008 i believe and I and Spinja187 are both still able to get updates on a least one system. i'm going off for a bit to try and install GUIDE PLUS on another "virgin" system. That will give (at least to my mind) an idea if this problem has to do with the Gemstar address not feeding in the correct data. Which would explain why those systems that already have the correct URLS's are still able to get up to date updates and why after I re-installed I was not able to.
EDIT: It looks like i was going off "old information" and it was indeed just sold again in December 2008:
http://tvdecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/12/18/the-tv-guide-network-finds-a-buyer/?hp

Did you try a trouble report to this page?
http://apps.ati.com/guideplus/guideplus.html
Yes, but usually it takes ATI up to 72 hours to respond and they "usually" refer GUIDE PLUS problems (as they have for me long ago) to Gemstar which offered little to no support. It was a pointing fingers at each other thing. [BUT just to run down that base i submitted a ticket to them about 12 hours ago]. I'm  but maybe if we all do it might let them know of a problem...especially if someone at Macrovision goofed and the pointing website URL got taken off-line or is having some problem etc. (ALL thinking out loud I have no idea).
=======================================================================================
Although i don't think this applies to the current situation... i wonder what will lie ahead for us after the DTV conversion.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TVGOS

"The new service, launched in the United States in 2006, is entirely digital, using the ATSC digital television standard. While this will significantly improve the service, older systems will no longer be able to download listings once analog shutdown is done in early 2009"
Wonder if they will take that as there out to not have to broadcast the cable analog signals too. They won't have to carry OTA analog listings anymore, but will they just shut down the whole thing on us? And kill the CBTV listings too?
