Intel Arc discrete GPU Q1 2022

I understand that this is a first-gen product, but I would have expected better drivers given Intel’s massive resources. With that being said, I hope that this product succeeds for the good of consumers.

I hope it succeeds as well, and I'm genuinely excited about it. I mean...I won't be buying one any time soon, but still excited at the possibilities.

I'm shocked, however, that they are apparently releasing the cards with the drivers as bad as they seem to be.

Buddy of mine been on Nvidia a long time is considering it. His 970 is getting very long in the tooth. Im impressed as price is compelling but would wait for the 7700/7600 and 4060 first.

LoL Intel Arc uses a cooler by Nintendo LABO!

and holy **** that GTX 4090 is a literal cinder block....

I wouldnt count intel out just yet a couple tests it matches a 3080/6800xt. This could all be a matter of drivers to some degree tho drivers are pretty heavily cpu bound like nvidia vs amd.

Intel admits Arc Descrete GPUs have terrible driver CPU overhead.

Compute & Pixel throughput is on par with 3080 or 6800xt but held back by very low slow CPU to GPU interop.

Requires resizable-BAR for full gaming performance.

I would have bought one for my second system as a 1080 ti replacement if they had launched it earlier, but there is no point in doing it now as that is where the 3090 will end up soon-ish.

I think that the 770 16gb is an impressive GPU, but the legacy DX11/DX9 and lower support is terrible.

Such a pity, if they had poached people from the Nvidia and AMD driver team and put all there resources into it imagine what performance it would have had then!

The ray-tracing performance is good but I do have a feeling the competition are going to spring something else on us that improves massively on the ray tracing soon enough in that price range.

Some Intel Arc A770 Limited Edition GPUs May Show Up with Lower Memory Clock

Some Intel Arc A770 Limited Edition GPUs May Show Up with Lower Memory Clock

If this is a problem with the cards, I hope it can be fixed with a BIOS update.

Intel announced two Arc A770 models featuring either 16GB or 8GB memory. What is important to note is that the Limited Edition from Intel only comes with 16GB memory. The company decided that all A770 cards with 16GB should have a higher memory clock speed than 8GB models, which in this case means 17.5 Gbps instead of 16 Gbps.

As it turns out, multiple users now report that their 16GB Limited Edition cards are actually running at 16 Gbps memory. What this means is that instead of 560 GB/s bandwidth, their cards are ‘limited’ to 512 GB/s, which the same speed as A770 8GB or A750 SKUs.

Those users have now reported this issue to Intel via Github, where at least a few instances were already posted. We can clearly see that the memory speed is 2000 MHz instead of 2187 MHz:

[Screenshot of GPU-Z showing memory speed]

The memory speed and bandwidth are higher. This problem is reportedly not limited to GPU-Z but other software as well. Furthermore, both cards are using the same BIOS. We have reported this issue to GPU-Z developer, who is now looking into this issue as we speak.

Just be aware that this could be as simple bug in Intel API/drivers reporting wrong clocks. We will update this post should a solution be found quickly.

Which AMD cards were Raja associated with? I know he's usually the fall guy for the underperforming parts from the AMD, i just wanted to see which parts he was involved with.
