Full Screen Theatre Mode woes after upgrade

I used to have an XP SP3 system with two 3850s in the following configuration:

3850-1 - Monitor 1 - Main monitor, 1680x1050
3850-1 - Monitor 2 - 40" HD TV 1920x1080
3850-2 - Monitor 3 - Secondary monitor, 1280x1024

Was running on cat 9.something - probably about 9.7

Monitors were arranged as follows:
Display 1 = Monitor 1 - main display
Display 2 = Monitor 3 - to right of Display 1
Display 3 = Monitor 2 - logically to right of Display 2

I've now replaced 3850-1 with a 5750 in the following sequence:

Uninstalled Cat 9.x using the uninstall utility. Shut down & removed 3850-1. Installed 5750. Booted up. Installed Cat 10.2

However now I cannot get fullscreen theatre mode to work on the TV (Display 3). regardless of the "Set the video aspect ratio" settings, videos will always play stretched to fill the TV width, but 16:9 source will be compressed vertically to look like 2.3:1, whereas 4:3 source will have the top and bottom cut off!

The TV is set to 16:9 and has not changed. I've tried playing videos with MPClassic and VideoLan, the result is the same.

Help! What's going on??

Also confirm correct resolutions (duh) and that the main monitor is extended to TV (not cloned). Sometimes, using the ports in order avoids problems so if main is DVI and there are two on the card then connect to port 1 (else lower number). I guess if DP then there is no choice.

Auric - yes, correct res and extended. The card has 2 x DVI, 1 x HDMI and 1x DP - I'm currently using a DVI-HDMI (TV end) but I'll try a straight HDMI-HDMI when I can find the cable and also try switching the two DVI ports over.
