Dragons Dogma PC Discussion

Just finished my first Speedrun. 46 minutes, 51 seconds.
Awesome job Brumbek! I did another Speedrun and got it down to 38 minutes! EPIC.

I love the attention to detail in this game. Here's a story to illustrate.

So on my fifth playthrough I just happened to run across an NPC being attacked by goblins. Turns out he bought a grimoire I happen to be trying to find. So he gave me some backstory about it, how he was trying to get in the good graces of a certain faction called Salvation. Fun stuff, but it doesn't end there!

So after I deal with Salvation, this NPC turns up wanting an escort to a fishing spot because now that Salvation isn't a viable career option, he's returned to fishing! That's such cool world-building--he isn't a random NPC but a real person with motives.

This type of stuff is why I love Dogma. Most developers wouldn't bother. But after over 10 playthroughs on PS3 and PC combined, I'm still running into NPCs and story bits I've never seen!

So much cool stuff in this game. Did you know you can pick up snakes and throw them at rocks/the ground to kill them? There's something else I only learned recently.

I know you love this game -- but did you just compliment yourself? ;)

I agree that DD have some nice attention to details. That being said, I also think that it should get rid of its MMORPG-style quests/crafting and RNG-based item grind, to be honest. I also wish if "fun" classes don't have terrible stats growth.

Best game I've played in years, gone straight into my top 'several' all time games. I can understand some people not liking aspects of it but it hits the right buttons for me. Wish the world was a bit bigger though, it feels quite small compared to other open world rpgs (skyrim, witcher, dragon age Inquisition).
I've managed to play almost 100 hours in less than the two weeks I've owned it. It's really grabbed me by the balls like no other game since the souls series. Perhaps it's better that the world isn't too big after all.

How does hard mode work? Is it a separate save or does it overwrite my existing save?

Is there any way to extract music from the game files since the OST is missing some of the ingame music?

So happy to hear we have another Dragon's Dogma convert! For the select few who *click* with this game, we ADORE it. I seriously have never been this in love with a game before. Words can't describe the joy and charm and ecstasy of Dragon's Dogma for me! Every time my main pawn comes back from helping someone and says, "How did I do, master? I tried my hardest!"...I get so emotional. I love her unconditionally; she's just perfect in my eyes.

Starting Hard Mode will reset whatever playthrough you are on and begin a new one. Enemies do more damage, stamina drains faster, but you get way more XP and gold. You can change from Hard to Normal/Easy at any time and maintain your playthrough progress, but you can NEVER go back to Hard without it restarting your playthrough.

Be aware that doing a Speedrun resets the difficulty to Normal, and after the Speedrun finishes you'll be put back to whatever point in your Hard playthrough you were at BUT it will be on NORMAL.

Is there any way to extract music from the game files since the OST is missing some of the ingame music?
Yes, there's a very easy way. You can play any DDDA audio file using VLC or Audacity or another player.

All audio is located at: \SteamApps\common\DDDA\nativePC\sound\stream

The .sngw files are actually just renamed .ogg audio files. So just associate .sngw with whatever player you want and listen! Audacity will even open the files with all the different channels so you can mess with listening to just the bass if that's the sort of sick thing you're into. ;)

You've got some real issues dude, seriously. I gotta break the bad news to Thirdeye that he's no longer king of fk'ed up around here.

Thanks for the reply, I'll hold off on hard mode for now then, I still haven't finished the main story. It's lacking challenge atm though, I probably did too much side questing.

I hope modding takes off on the pc version. I'm not sure how easily modded DD is but apparently the resident evil game (6?) that shares the engine has an active modding community.

If you want to play hard mode at all then the earliest you do it the better, so you can experience new things in a new game, rather than finishing once on normal, than starting from scratch again on your second run. Lots of quest stuff and one of a kind items that you need multiple of can only be aquire in new game plus.

I'm back to gush more! I just finished my first Bitterblack Isle run, and I'm blown away by the depth of the story! It's so cool to have this huge optional dungeon that seems unrelated to the main game story at first but actually perfectly ties into it.

I'll say it again: Dragon's Dogma's story has no business being this good! It seems generic for the first 75%, but then goes crazy and delivers one of the best, most memorable stories ever (both main game and Bitterblack Isle).

And how cool is it that there's a random loot system in Bitterblack, letting you replay it 20 times to keep finding new loot! Sorry guys, but this game is SO INSANELY GOOD.

You've got some real issues dude, seriously.
But I love my pawn so much! She is the perfect lady! She tries her best, she never questions, and she has no soul!! ...?

Sadly the game contains a lot of information in single files like the game_main.arc. We really need a programmer to write a special mod manager tool that will allow us to pick what mods we want and then merge them into the right files. But honestly I doubt anyone will take the time to make that. So I highly doubt modding will take off...it just isn't worth the effort.

However, the most important mods are out there, like double carry capacity and half stamina drain while sprinting. I consider that essential and closer to what the developers should have done, personally.

That's dissapointing, I was hoping at least for an axes mod since they are strangely absent from the game.

You're obviously a big fan of dd, have you tried the online mmo at all? I'm curious to try it but the Japan/Asia only restrictions/localisation is putting me off.

Whelp...on my sixth run of Bitterblack Isle. Such an awesome endgame dungeon. The best I've ever played! Check out my flamin' awesome Sorcerer! (Yep, I played through the entire dungeon as a Sorcerer for the challenge of it...end boss was very tricky...was down to my last healing item...killed him a few seconds before I would have died!)

I despise every MMO I've ever played. I personally find them all to be soulless grinds full of tedious gameplay systems that force conformity and artificially delay rewards to keep you playing (and buying real money stuff).

I've watched some DDO videos. It looks fairly faithful to the original game's combat, but the online component means annoying lag and damage sponge enemies. Plus it looks like the typical MMO grind. And it apparently has no meaningful story. And it has a low level cap meant to take you ages of playing to reach.

In short, DDO is another grindy, shallow MMO. It in no way lives up to the original single-player game.

I love DDDA!

I love DDDA!

And Brumbek wept for there were no more Dragons to conquer! After 8 playthroughs and countless Bitterblack expeditions for fun and profit, I am sad to say I must put the game aside! How wondrous was my time with it! Even after all these playthroughs, I'm still in love with it!

You guys ever have that game you just don't want to quit playing but you know you've done it all and really should move on? Dogma is that and so much more!

And to celebrate my love for Dogma, I am now listening to the soundtrack while reading the incredibly detailed artbook! How fitting that Dogma should also be one of the few games to actually give quality extras/bonuses.

The soundtrack is recorded and mixed so perfectly. So many brilliant tracks, very listenable in many situations!

And the artbook, wow! As an artist, this thing inspires so much! It is so great to see their concept art and unused ideas. Truly their art team is world-class.

To leave you all, let us consider this image. My love for Dogma is like this skeleton reaching to his precious Gem. I shall reach out in love forever and beyond!

RIP Brumbek :3

Congrats Brumbek,
Safe to say you've had one heck of a run with it. Nice guide on Steam btw. too bad I read it after I ventured into BBI for the 1st time at lvl 38 crawled back out at 41 lol

I'm loving this game on pc currently lvl 42 1st playthrough taking my sweet time. Kicking myself a bit for not revisiting this on the ps3(lvl17) after I retired, it's just the game I needed to get sucked back into gaming.

Steam name is DarkFoss pawn's Sephiria if anyone wants to ad me and use her. Very much a work in progress at this point.

Any recent news on DD2? I know just before the PC release, they had said they wanted to do it and the PC performance would help determine it. From what I understand, it was one of Capcom's best selling PC games ever but I have not heard any thing past that about a sequel.

Was really hesitant to play this on PC as it meant giving up my character and pawn from the 360 version but currently lvl 150 something and played DS3 for all of a couple hours before going right back to DDDA.

steam name is same as r3d name if any one wants to use my pawn.
