Same here Mac. This was evident in the last 2 builds as my X-fi wouldn't work in them. Tried everything including numerous driver installs etc but to no avail. So, like you I've just plugged my surround sound into the onboard Realtek sound driver and to be fair it's not toooo terrible. In some games there is little difference but in others it's massive.

Creative say they will release a driver in October (my arse) so no support until at least then. Had a look round last night and some were complaining of a lack of win 10 driver for the soundblaster Z which is the latest card. Doesn't bode well for discrete sound.

yeah, it says october on their website.

Ill believe it when i see it.

lol

in the meantime, this is what i did:

1. install this package: http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=720562
2. if you are lucky everything will work fine.
3. If when reboot the sound is gone again, uninstall (make sure you check off delete drivers) from the device manager.
4. rescan hardware and it will install generic drivers.
5. Or try to figure out why the damn sound stops when you reboot. lol

you can still use the xfi with the generic driver, but no enhancements.

If you dont reboot after the package install, everything will work great until you do.

keep an eye on that thread as well, as its pretty up to date with people having the same issues and the author of the updated package occasionally making a new one.

I've tried that but like you say keep losing sound every time I reboot. At this stage just sticking with on board sound which is better than nothing. Had a good run out of the xtremegamer so might start thinking about replacing it. Not much choice though

if you uninstall the xfi driver from that pack and check the delete driver box, then rescan for hardware changes it will install generic drivers.

Those work on reboot, just no enhancements.

im going to work on it tonight and see if i can get them to stick.

EDIT: alright i got it to stick. heres what you do:

1. remove all creative software.
2. uninstall device making sure to check delete drivers
2. stop, then delete all the remaining creatives services. there could be up to 3 left. (CMD, run as admin, SC DELETE SERVICENAME)
3. delete remaining creative directories (they are in both "program files", and "x86 programs files". If it wont let you delete something, you missed a service)
4. run CCleaner's registry check and fix all. run 3 or 4 times to make sure you get everything.
5. reboot
6. run package i linked to above. select custom install, and ONLY install the drivers, nothing else.
7. reboot.
8. goto device manager. disable, then reenable xfi device. verify you have sound.
9. reboot - sound should still work.
10. run package installer and custom install everything else you want.
11. reboot, should still have sound, if you dont, disable and reneable in device manager.
12. run creative console launcher and set it up how you like.
13. IMPORTANT: put computer to SLEEP, not shut down. This will make your setup stick. rebooting will reset them.
14. resume from sleep and make sure launcher options stuck.
15. reboot, everything should be working.

sorry about the off topic guys.

edit2: as a quick check, just install the package, dont reboot. check its working, then sleep right away before rebooting. It might work before you try the above annoying proceedure. Someone said it stop working on reboot becasue it defaults to the front panel on reboot if you dont save it first.

About the X-Fi, I'm told by a friend online that this XFI_SupportPack_3_4.exe package works, here's the link https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4veZnyFbxW4WHVOS0p4Nmtobms/view?pli=1 I have not tried this myself. He also notes "ya the one thing on that Xfi package is every reboot my sound doesn't work and I have to open the creative settings in the volume app and change it from game to entertainment or whatever. supposedly if you set the settings then do a shutdown instead of reboot it will save"

DanielK's X-Fi driver works fine for me under 10.

Installed, rebooted, woosh - all works like a charm.

Doesn't Creative have a lack of drivers every time a new OS is out? That's my impression.

My ZxR working as good as it did with Windows 7, didn't have to reinstall anything.

My daughters laptop Sager NP6659 has a Via VT1802S audio chip, but it also shipped with some Creative Cinema 2 software - whatever that does (according to Sager its Soundblaster 3D Audio compatible sound card). The software works but freezes up and hiccups, so I uninstalled it.

Yeah, it especially on older products. The current eta for the Z series is next month, but I'll be shocked if they aren't in beta status until next year.

we really need a sticky for daniel_K drivers. this keeps popping up several times a day in the win10 thread

I remember several years ago they had some Creative 3rd party K-drivers that were very popular and pretty good. Are these Daniel drivers from the same guy?

yes, these are them.

the problem is, in some cases after an install and reboot the default outputs changes to the front panel, and you cant change it.

resetting the driver in device manager, then immediately going to sleep, or sleeping immediately after install before rebooting seems to fix it.

It appear to affect X-fi models mostly

STOP!!!! do not do this.. it is incorrect.

When the sound is gone after reboot, you don't uninstall. You just go to the device manager, disable and then re-enable the creative sound card (sound is back). that's it, you don't uninstall anything or scan for hardware changes.

It only happened on the first reboot, once I did this (which is also what is recommended in the thread where you found the packages). It has not happened again for over 20 reboots..

its not incorrect, its an option if all else fails.

if you've installed the whole package, device manager wont always let you disable without a reboot due to all the other dependent services, creating an annoying loop situation.

The best thing to do in this case is uninstall everything, reboot, reinstall, and immediately sleep the machine to save the output config.

if that doesn't work, you are screwed and the generic hd sound drivers are your only option.

Or just use the mode switcher to switch from gaming to entertainment. That brings sound back as well.

Reinstalled Windows 10 - did a fresh install. Did not install any ZxR software/drivers - it is working right out of the box, windows detected it and installed drivers. Of course I can't access all the features without creative software suite, but I'm going to hold off installing the driver for now, until creative releases proper windows 10 driver.
