Conflicted about the PS5

I was always sure about getting the PS5, and always wanted to get one.

But ever since Microsoft acquired Bethesda, I am losing interest in it... BIG. Truth be told, all I cared about is Uncharted, but there is already rumors the remastered trilogy will come out on PC. While playing some PS5 exclusives is great, they really aren't a must for me given my huge PC backlog and growing interest in Game Pass.

While having one will be nice for the living room, I really don't know anymore.

But here's the thing. The official PS store in Hong Kong have been periodically (like once a month) holding "purchase lotteries" where only a select number of people can purchase one, and so have it, I was selected a few days after I ordered my new US$2500 gaming PC. :bleh:

I can easily make US$150 selling the PS5. So what do you think? Sell it or buy one praying there will be exclusives that will capture my interest?

Personally I wouldnt bother with it, not enough exclusives yet but come back in 2 years time when they refresh the model and there's a back catalogue of games going cheap buy one then.

Bethesda was the big shock that has made me think of an Series X and its a more powerful bit of hardware too, or a powerful PC like you have coming and a membership to gamepass will tide you over for the next 2 years.

Also the backwards compatibility on the PS5 is so short sighted of Sony, Microsoft have the right idea having pretty much all there old games getting patched 60-120fps and faster loading vs Sony leaving everything in PS4 or Pro mode.

Well that right there is the exact reason I have no interest to buy it. The game catalog of the PC platform satisfies pretty much all my gaming needs. If I bought a PS5 it would likely just be an expensive dust collector. If you have a current specced PC you are pretty set for gaming, IMO.

As already mentioned it might make more sense to just wait a couple years until its more widely available, cheaper, and has a bigger catalog of worthwhile exclusives.

I want a ps5 for late gen ps4 titles.

You kind of get the definite edition of those games by playing it on a ps5.

But I live in a market that does not matter, so 2022 is probably when I get my hand on one.

I have no desire for a PS4 or PS5. Some of the available PS exclusive titles dont really interest me.

I have my PC for graphical games and multiplats, since most of any game i would want to play would be available on PC as well. Only a handful of exclusives dont appear to be exclusive that much longer (FF7 remake im looking at you, and the kingdom hearts series made the jump to PC not that long ago).

However just turning it on and off whenever makes a console much more palatable.....which is why i want to build a small mini PC for the living room (ive got Xbox 360 controllers that would work).

Besides, I also have a Switch. Between the Switch and PC, i pretty much have all the bases covered for the games i would play.
There was a time i thought i'd be in on a PS4 pro, but that ship has sailed.

I think Sony is going to expand their offerings for PC. They'll want to compete with Microsoft who has and will continue to release all their first party titles on PC. Sony also just acquired Nixxes who specialize in porting.

They need to bring NHL to PC, and then I'll have no reason for my PS anymore. Y'all are missing out on Ghost of Tsushima and Bloodborne, though. :(

I've got no PS5 related regrets. I've been getting a ton of use out of it, but that's primarily because I enjoy revisiting games. It'll keep me busy for a while.

Bloodborne is the main reason I finally have a PS4 now. And Ghost of Tsushima is the only other game I am likely to going to buy for it.

Way back before Death Stranding got ported to PC that was another game I was going to get a PS4 for, but luckily it got ported.

With literally only 2 exclusive games for the entire lifecycle of the PS4 having any interest to me, its doubtful I will ever buy a PS5 especially seeing the rumors Sony is going to start releasing more PC ports. I see it as a good thing though. I don't really consider myself part of the console demographic and looks like Sony and MS don't really consider PC gaming as a direct competitor to their consoles. I am PC all the way for modern gaming. Well, and Nintendo but they are a different segment all together IMO.

There were so many good exclusives with the PS4. Many show up on PC 2 - 4 years later. So, it's up to you how long you mind waiting. When I got the PS4 I found better quality games overall as compared to PC over the last years of that console. PS5 hasn't hit the same stride yet. But, I am confident it will. Right now I would love to own a PS5. If only I could. It's been near impossible to get one without paying a scalper. (something I want to avoid).

GameStop. And PlayStation direct. I was able to nab 2 by mistake about 20 minutes apart from GameStop. Most people I know that have them, got them from those two places.

If I had a dollar for every minute I spent in a PlayStation direct queue or hit refresh on a Gamespot drop I would have enough money to buy 10 PS5s. Been doing the same game for BestBuy, Walmart, and Target drops too. Starting to get burned out :(

When GameStop says keep checking because they’re adding more periodically, that’s legit. I got the first one like 12 minutes after the drop even though it said it was out. The 2nd one, the add to cart popped up while I was on the page.

Sold it cause I don't really care much about Playstation exclusives anymore.

Made US$150 selling the darn thing.
