Anybody know when drivers for Vista will be released?

No, but I know of a RemoteWonder driver that will install and function in Vista with nary an issue.

Download RW driver 1.4. Right click on the executable, click on the compatibility tab, and select XPSP2 compatibility mode. Close the dialogue box. Again, right click on the executable and left click "run as administrator."

That's it. Install and reboot. I suggest having your RW unplugged during your OS install, and then install RW drivers immediately after installing Vista (or XP). Reboot after the driver install and when you get to the desktop, plugin the remote.

If you've already installed Vista, and you install RW drivers but have no systray icon, you can try my fix in a seperate thread.

Yup, RW drivers v3.04 work fine as long as WinXP compatibility mode is applied to all executables. :)

From where? It's not on ATI's site that I could find.

I made every executable (3-04_rw_enu.exe, setup.exe, makensisw.exe, ATIRW.EXE, wdreg16.exe and wdreg_gui.exe) use XP SP2 compatibility mode. I installed and rebooted, but when the installer started again it gave me this error:

C:\Program Files\ATI Multimedia\RemCtrl\drivers\wdreg_gui.exe Error
Error updating the driver (hid:*WINDRVR6) with the INF file: The system cannot find the file specified.

Windows showed that it was installing the drivers when I first plugged it in, but there's no tray icon, and the remote does not work at all. I have UAC disabled if that makes any difference. I guess I'll uninstall and reinstall and try running the installer as Administrator. My user account is an Admin acccout so I don't see how that will help, but I'll try anything. My next step is to try Girder or some other software listed here. If anyone has any suggestions, please help. Thanks.

Thanks. Weird thing is, I have them working now. I booted into my XP SP2 installation and installed 3.04, and it worked fine. Then I booted back into Vista Ultimate later to do something else, and the tray icon loaded. The remote was working. I have no idea how.

One issue though in Vista. In Media Center and PowerDVD, while I was moving the mouse around after awhile the mouse would start moving on it's own heading on a diagonal path toward the bottom-left corner of my screen. It's a continuous motion that can only be briefly interrupted by mouse movement, and then off it would go again. I had to use the keyboard to log off and the mouse would go back to normal.

It's nice to know that some people have got it working under Vista. I just have the original Remote Wonder, but I use it all the time.

I'm assuming that this fix only works for the 32-bit version of the OS, correct?

Bilar Crais, can you post a link to your other thread where you explain how to fix the missing system tray icon? I haven't tried anything yet, but I'd like to be prepared.

Sorry, but it looks like the mod deleted the thread. It was probably deleted because of a legal issue, since I didn't own the files in my fix.

I haven't been able to get my Remote Wonder II working at all under Vista. The furthest I got was having it listed in the device manager, but with no tray icon or input from the remote. I'm not sure what AMDs support plans are, so I've been look at new remotes.

Specifically, I've been looking at this:
sb_mce_rcr_main.jpg

I've seen it bundled with a MS MCE keyboard for about $60cdn. There's also the FireFly remote that ships with some SnapStream products. I can't say for sure if the MS one works under Vista, but I know they install under XP without any driver CD. It also doesn't seem to have the mouse functionality that the RemoteWonders have.

I wonder if I could get my Wiimote working...

Where did you see the bundle with the keyboard for $60 cdn? I've seen the keyboard for around $80 on it's own.
The MCE remote works in Vista natively, actually a bit better than in MCE. The difference, unless my skull is really thick, in MCE the remote wouldn't do anything untill you start Media Center with the 'Green Button'. In Vista, if you hit 'Live TV' you go instantly to live TV (and the other buttons work the same.)
I've just seen the new Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Keyboard 7000 which is bluetooth, come with a usb bluetooth receiver, wireless laser mouse. The keyboard has Media Center buttons built in so you don't really need the remote, just take the keyboard over to the coffee table. I actually like the keyboard better than the remote in general, like if you need to type in a search or whatever. It's a nice keyboard, but twice the price at Staples as the MCE combo you're mentioning.

No car, but I'm not far from Factory Direct's College Street store.
Yeah, I'd miss the numpad, I actually use it constantly for numeric entry as well as gaming.
The price will probably come down fairly quickly, I was looking at the Laser Mouse 6000 when it came out, but it was too pricey, then it was about half price 8 or 9 months later.
Now that Media Center is in general release instead of just OEM, I bet Logitec will have a decent board with Media Center buttons as well soon.

I finally got it workin' W/ 64bit Vista, I had to install 1.4 and it installed fine but no sys tray icon and it wouldn't do anything but it did show it was installed in Device Mgr.
When I rebooted I got the blue screen as it always does when I install ANYTHING!! drivers, software etc. it pisses me off. So I booted in s/m and disabled it and rebooted. Then I installed 3.04 and rebooted and tray icon loaded and It works!! now if I could only get my HDTV to work with MMC so I wont have to use Windowz (resource hog) Media Center and B-cuz it wont let me use my composite/s-video inputs. Thankx guys for the info.
