Remote control suggestions

I'm looking for a programmable universal remote control, the kind where you don't need codes but rather point your original remote at it and assign which button use which signal.

And I would like it as affordable as possible please. No fancy display on the remote, just as long as it's programmable without codes.

I've been thinking of buying this one ->
Sony RM-VL710 REVIEW ($34.99 MSRP)

It has enough memory to learn on every key in every mode.
You can pick one up for ~$25

Not bad!!! Thanks man, I might grab that one.

I'd go with a Harmony remote, hands down. I purchased the ST-659 when it first came out ($180) and purchased another one for my parents this past summer ($70 on ebay, new).

You connect it to your USB port and program it via their web-interface. They have just about every code imaginable, and if they don't, it can learn the code from another remote (like you wanted). Highly, highly configurable, and easy to program.

I'd still pay $180 for it today if mine broke, though thankfully that particular model has come down in price.

(Oh yeah, in case you have problems, their tech support is outstanding, by far the best of any CE-manufacturer I've experienced. Harmony was recently bought out by Logitech, but the support is still the same).

Edit:
Tech support can also search other Harmony users database if you need a code they don't offer and if you lost your original remote. Very cool feature.

Yeah I'd go with a eHarmony as well... I have a Remote Wonder 1 and it works well for what I need, but the damn plugins don't work as well as I'd like :(

Which plugin/s are you having trouble with?

I used to have problems with PowerDVD, but I just found out how well the plug-in for Windvd Pro works, as well as how much of an upgrade it is in terms of visual quality over the competition (realistic color). With that setup, the remote wonder now runs everything as it should, and I have zero complaints. Before, I was using PowerDVD, which seems to have problems/lack of functionality where the applicable remote plugin is concerned. Between Windvd and WMP, I've got everything I need.

Harmony ftw.

With WinTV (with my Hauppauge 350) you can't pause the stream then restart where you were.

you can't ffwd dvd in WinDVD, only chapter skip and various little things like that.

It's not perfect, it gets most of the job done.
