Might be getting a new job with a nice signing bonus, so I'm looking to get a more comfortable daily driver. Budget is $60 - $70k. Test drove a few, including the Mercedes E350 which is in the lead so far. Don't care too much about performance. I want comfortable as sh*t, all the tech (HUD, parking assist, etc).

Suggestions?

You can get a 2013 S550 4matic for that much money on the current market. It's the last year of that body style but you can get a metric ****ton of car for your money.

I would really look at a 2 year old S class or A8 really, first guy took the 40k depreciation and you get to roll around in a 6 figure car for 5.

New and in that price range, the E350 would be my choice. If you could up your budget a little more, the Maserati Ghibli S would be an option (which I would pick over the E350 any day).

Jaguar XJ.

For a new base car, the market value is In your price range.

Or get a loaded car that's 1-2 yrs old.

Not me man. My experience with maseratis has been mostly them having **** break left and right, all sorts of reliability issues, and trips to the dealer far from where we live.

I would say the same thing about the MB owners around me.. It seems the more gadgets a car has, the more they hit the shop in general. However, if I'm going to risk a purchase, it's not going to be with a MB.

I MAY go the used car route but only from a dealer. I've had nothing but bad experiences buying used from private party.

So the maserati is nice and all, but I didn't see all the tech options on there (HUD, automatic parallel parking, etc.) and I really don't want payments so stretching the budget isn't happening.

That jaguar posted looks nice, but I've never sat or rode in one so I'll have to test drive. Like I said, I'm mainly looking at comfort level (ride, seats, etc) and tech.

Thanks for the input guys. Keep it coming.

My neighbor had one of those Jags, and man was it beautiful. Sounded pretty amazing too. He traded it for a 550i, which is by far less attractive, but he likes it better overall. He leases them, so he trades out every three years.

I personally liked his Jag better, but the BMW is very nice as well.

you should be able to pick up a 1-2 year old XJ-L 3.0 AWD in the $65,000 price range with under 20k miles easily.
Super sexy car but I think I would stick with the A8L or S550.
I would love to roll an A8L every day, god damn what a fine ass automobile.

I prefer the new S over the new A8L.
However, I would never buy used when spending 65K if you plan on keeping vehicle more than 3 years.

Lexus LS?

Regarding HUD, realize that it doesn't work with polarized sunglasses, and the windshields are expensive as hell. The next time I buy a car, if I can avoid HUD, I will.

Oh, you'd buy $110k new and keep it for 8 years but not buy a two year old car for $65k and keep it for 5 or 6?
Aren't you supposed to be a financial advisor?

If new, then the E350 hands down. If used, a used S-Class like Titanium said.

The couple of people I know who had Maserati's no longer own them due to them being massive piles of ****

It's subjective I suppose. One of my best friend's mom just traded in her 04 C240 4matic with 95K miles on it and never had an issue with it. My boss daily's a 2006 E350 with probably over 100K miles on it and has no complaints; his wife has a 1st gen GL450 and loves it.

I'd rather have an MB then a lot of other cars out there.

I don't really get the need for a car that is considered a somewhat good yearly salary, but, to each their own. Something that no one has really mentioned, and probably the only car that I would ever consider paying this much for, would be a Tesla S. A little on the high end of your budget (especially when you throw in the gadgets) but... I'd take them over many of the cars mentioned here any day of the week... because if you're spending this much on a car, you're wanting to stand out, so why not stand out for a reason.

another vote for the a8, it's a damn fine car. The jag, well, all owners i know told me they rape you with maintanence costs, but i can't tell.

Personally not a big fan of the look of the E350, but that's of course just personal taste.

There's not a car brand out there where you can't find people who had bad experiences.

I agree. Maserati is just the one where I personally have never heard of an owner NOT having issues with it. But as I said earlier, it's subjective.

Maserati rapes you on service too, compared to some of the more "common" luxury brands.

I don't know about that... I will say my M3 service was always double of anything I've paid on the Audi's we have owned. From what I've seen of Jaguar and Maserati servicing, BMW is in the same range (and I doubt MB is too far off). The main issues with Jag and Maserati is that there are typically very few authorized dealers around which means you don't have much of a choice for warranty work. If you don't care about that, there are always specialty shops around but few rarely venture into that area with a new car (since that's part of the reason to buy a new car).

Back on topic, an Audi A7 would be in the original price range. I'd take that over the E350.

Get a 550 with M sport package, or better yet, X5 with M sport package.

Once you go BMW you don't go back.
