![]() Hello ATI graphics forum browsers, I'm considering buying a Radeon 5770 card for use in gaming. My question is, how long should I expect it to last before having to upgrade to something else? The most recent graphically updated game I play is Bad Company 2. In other words, as of the day of writing this post, what is the expected lifetime of a Radeon 5770? |

AMD and NVIDIA are on a roughly yearly refresh at this point, but you can typically do an upgrade every other release to get a good bang/buck increase in performance. The next expected refresh from AMD is late the year, early next year (no official announcement, guessing) and the new NVIDIA mid range are due anytime now. ![]() I play at 1440x900 tops since its the preferred resolution of my widescreen monitor. I don't care much for AA however I do care about AF, Polygons, and Big textures. Currently I have 2 gigs of ram but soon I will upgrade to 4 aswell. I am running Windows 7 obviously which is why I am specifically asking about a DirectX 11 capable card. |

![]() I've been using a XFX HD5770 now for a few months. It's a 1 GB GDDR5 card and I play all games at 1920x1080 if using a single screen, OR 6024x1080 in a 3x1 Eyefinity setup. My system is in the siggy below. I love this card for its price to performance ratio and you can likely get it for less than what I paid for mine a few months ago.

![]() 1gb of video ram is fine for me I think. As far as spending is concerned, I'd like to not spend over $200. Also can anyone else vouch for XFX? Is there any specific model or part number i should look for? |

![]() I've had the Sapphire 5770 Juniper, i.e. the closed exhaust fan box for about 3 months now. I've an older system with the G31 chipset and an Intel E6500. So far, this card has worked well for me. Idles at about 45 C and about 65 C when gaming. If you are not playing high frame rate FPS's the card will work well for you. If you are, think about at least a 5830. |

![]() Can you be more specific on your definition of "high framerates"? |

![]() Actually, I do not play FPS games, so I cannot be more specific about frame rates from personal experience. I do build computers for friends and neighbors though, so I have to do research into which cards do what, depending on their individual needs. Here’s one resource you might look at: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2010-gaming-graphics-charts-high-quality/benchmarks,101.html I’m myself am currently playing The Witcher Enhanced Edition with the 1.5 and the Director’s Cut patch. A word of caution about this game; do not play it with women and small children around. The 5770 is doing a fine job rendering the juicy parts. Even though the VRAM (1 GB) is the same, the main reason I mentioned the 5830 is the doubling of the interface speed goes from 128 MB to 256MB. All in all, it just comes down to what you’re going to do with the card in relation to long term replacement life. |

![]() at that price you dont have much choice how long it will last is partially up to you... & up to crysis2 if you could squeeze up to 5850 that would be much nicer (but that's just me) i'm a 4870x2, so ~5870, & i'm mostly satisfied, but want some more crysis speed & no more CF, so i'm waiting on 6870... this would make my 4870x2 last over 2 years, not that it will be a slouch after 2 additional years either -the point is, a little more higher end like 5850 would last longer, unless you get into CF 5770s later on single 5770 ~35-50fps in BC2 on max dx11

![]() that's what i'd get since heat goes out just... those ones, or maybe the older manufactured ones, have idle driver resets
