Doom3 does not look all that great .. from what i have seen and played .. the games has nothing special to it .. other then a lot of hype.

This is the worst texture i have seen yet in any game.

UT2004 looks better then Doom3

Better:

WOW shadows .. but the characters dont even look like they are in the enviroment, they look like paper.

Please explain why everyone thinks this game is amazing, the game play is ok, nothing great. graphics are good .. not SUPER, audio is good.

It all depends on what part of doom 3, ive typed noclip and gone to the martian part of the land and i can just imagine with mods how good this game will look. Wait till the maps come out for this game. I really want to learn how to use the editor, but cant find any tuts on it :\ Also look at the screenshots in the official doom 3 thread.

WTF is with all the haters? How can you say this game is not cool. "Graphics are good, but not super" Well considering how they play on the hardware we have if they were any better the game would be unplayable.

Damm man I think this game is freakin sweet. But i will say the low polygon pointy heads do kinds piss me off.

Lol there are no haters dude...his right, textures are VERY blurry/low res. On the otehr hand lighting is awsome, best I've seen in a game so far.

and which texture exactly is the worse you have seen?

it would be just nice if people who need to bash something would actually make the effort and be a bit more precise than " uh it sucks" and similar complex arguments.

so, when you actually do explain what it is that you don't like about these visuals, then someone else might explain what thinks is great about it.
that might then even lead to an interesting discussion.

The chase, are these low quality cuz that what they seem.. I have seen high quality and these no where near high quality.... serioulsy, look at the guy hand.,.. they don't look like anything on high details..

I'm forced to agree, thus prooving one thing.

OpenGL was NOT a good idea. too darn slow for high res textures.

eh? where? environment textures? characters? monsters?
go into details man, not just make blurry generalizations.

for example I can tell you where Far Cry actually does not have better textures at all. take a close look at the mutants. those textures, together with the over use of glossy specular lights give them the nice and clean appearance of plastic toys. in cute pinks and pseudo metal blues.
early doom 3 screens (alpha I guess) also showed a way to glossy plastic shine, which has been greatly reduced in the final version.
the humans it seems don't look very good in both games.. or lets say, they don't look alive at all.

You're smokin it. Unreal 2 looks nothing like doom3. Maybe you can find a screenshot or 2 that look maybe close, but play them both and it's not even close.
