I haven't cared about Nintendo after the SNES, recently though I've been on a nostalgic kick so I've been playing lots of Nintendo games, and my I've played more on my 3DS in the last month than any other platform. Sucks being a fan of games that are exclusive to platforms controlled by such a horrible company...

No, you'll need expressed, written consent of Nintendo to have live, in-home viewings only, and with a maximum of 5 viewers present. Recordings are not allowed, streaming is not allowed, and each is punishable by death.

Nintendo needs to fire its old hat executives, hire some new blood, and get with the times. They're stuck in a state of 'it worked in the past, so it should work now' mantra.

This is gonna sound super racist, but Nintendo needs to hire a bunch of white people.

Seriously, if you're looking for signs that Nintendo is reforming into a healthy and modern company, you can look at Sony's Playstation group for an example. They have plenty of Japanese talent, but they also hired a ton of people in the US and Europe. Or look at Sega at their prime.

Nintendo does have a US group, but they really only do marketing and localization. Reggie has no decision-making power for anything important. Contrast that with Sony of America or Europe, who's executives have budget and autonomy to hire or build game studios, make highly strategic decisions about games and other initiatives.

Nintendo's problem is that they're too Japanese, and have only Japanese perspectives on everything. Occasionally they hire a western studio to make a game for them, but Nintendo has Japanese people watching over every part of the process, often intervening in the creative vision.

Nintendo will never rise to their potential until you see them empower their US and European branches... this may never happen, btw... Nintendo's leadership would rather commit seppuka than have foreigners help them become massively successful.

I, for one, am perfectly fine without a world infested with DLC's and microtransactions and half-assed games.

That said, having a slightly different perspective could work wonders.

Yeah it's so much better having to mail a save file in to fix it rather then just being able to patch it.

On our ever quest to buy the NES classic when I go to Wal-mart we always check the Nintendo area of the game section. Yesterday a Nintendo rep was in there reorganizing the area. They removed the demo unit of the Wii-U and all hardware. Games have been reduced to mostly 3DS games. There is a new flyer for the Switch with a date.

One thing did hit me as I look at the games and that is BC is also a factor that hurt the Wii-U. There is still a large library of new Wii games being sold along side Wii-U games. Furthermore, the library is larger. Maybe BC is not a bad thing right now for the switch; at least not being able to play Wii/Wii-U games.

I agree that Nintendo needs to embrace Sony business model and listen to other regional branches and break away from Japan more.

Nintendo's doing everything wrong at this point. They need to be aggressive about rapidly building the Switch player base, and instead they're focused on maximizing margins.

I'm not saying they should sell the console at a loss, but there are obvious things they can do to make it much more attractive. Like including a pack-in game. We all know that 12Switch is doomed as a stand-alone release, and they're missing an opportunity to add value to the console by not bundling it. Or how about bundling in a couple of popular virtual console games, like Mario Galaxy or Donkey Kong Country Returns? They can do that without costing them any $$ at all.

Remember the rumors that Splatoon was the pack-in game for launch? That would have been absolutely genius, as it would add real value and ensure a massive online audience. It would make Splatoon for Switch into the original xbox's Halo: a massively popular game that the entire player base rallies around and drives the console moving forward. They could have launched with Splatoon Remastered and then saved Splatoon 2 for next year.

I suspect that their options are limited, because their online infrastructure is so far behind... it may be that virtual console isn't ready yet either. Maybe they priced the console high because they know they won't be selling at high volumes until christmas, and they won't have their online infrastructure or virtual console ready until then anyway? They know that Zelda will sell x number of consoles by itself (it certainly seems like they're depending on that), and then put together mass-appeal bundles for Christmas? If that's their plan, then that makes sense to me... but I suspect that they don't really have a master plan here, and that Nintendo leadership is simply out-of-touch, and the Switch is doomed to fizzle like the WiiU... the difference is that consumers are already primed to suspect the Switch to fail, so once it starts to smell like a failure it will collapse immediately.

Original ps4 $400.

2nd controller $65. (how dare nintendo charge $70. for a controller)

HDD upgrade $80.

PS4 pro $400.

PSVR $400.

PS camera $60.

PS move controllers $100.

stand and charging base for my PSVR and controllers $50.

Thats a "real cost of $1555" for the ps4

And then that greedy Sony makes me actually pay for games to play on it. And on top of all that, I have to pay to play online.

I don't think many people will opt for another pair of joycons, they look extremely uncomfortable to use as a regular controller.

Will have to wait to see, but I remember playing Twilight Princess on the original Wii and loving the fact that I could lie down on the couch and just rest each hand in a comfortable position while playing rather than clutching a controller in both hands.

The article seems to hint that retailers may have been over selling pre-orders, so Nintendo might not be at fault here.

Still, very frustrating to hear this kind of news after all the latest stock shortage debacles they've been having.

I do agree with you since there is enough data out there to suggest that diversity makes groups and people stronger. In reality Big N should bring in talent from Europe, North, and South America too to appeal to those audiences as well.
