300 is just out of my price range I completely forgot about the announcement and I will have to check out some videos from it later on today when I get home from work. It will have to wow me with no games really at launch to get a pre-order. Maybe Ill wait for summer.

Honestly the console concept looks great (I love the JoyCons), and I'm sure Nintendo will have some great games for it, but they really botched this presentation in a dramatic way. It really reinforces how out-of-touch Nintendo is, and that they aint never gonna change. The sad thing is that I really think they have many of the pieces in place to make this a Wii-style success... but Nintendo honestly just doesn't have the chops to build and nurture a successful platform in today's ecosystem.

I really think the best case scenario is for Nintendo to exit the console business become the world's best 3rd party publisher. They're simply outmatched in the platform market by Sony and MS, and their Japanese ego won't ever let them change to be competitive.

One thing I thought they might get (should have) got into, is possibly having a distinction between AA/AAA console games vs. mobile-first games. I assume long term this platform will replace 3DS.

But when I'm playing games on my 3DS, I often want to just play for 20-30 minutes at a time. That's part of the appeal of a portable game. Portable games have a lower price range than console games, and they are usually designed specifically for shorter play sessions, or at least have a quick-save option for exiting a stage half-way through to continue later.

Nintendo needs to carry over all their 3DS developers, even if third-party doesn't care about porting their other console titles. For this, I think there should be made some sort of distinction for "Quick-Play" titles that are in the $30-40 range and are geared towards playing when on the train or in bed. Ones where developers can safely put out a very fun game that doesn't have a huge budget for graphics and amount of content, without fear of being dinged for not being a proper 20 hour, super immersive console title.

Bomberman R could be one of those if they came up with some sort of "campaign" and if it has online mode you can play via phone hotspot, or a staggered mode where you play the same stage as friends (sort of like Mario Run's secondary mode).

Allright presentation, I'm guessing they aren't focusing on Europe, US etc by the tone of the presentation, the games presented and their style. They lost me Though liking the new Mario, and the joycons seemed pretty advanced.

There is so much bad that people are just overlooking.

1. $300 Price
2. 5 Games on launch day
3. 2.5 to 6 hours on a single charge, most likely the lower when actually gaming.
4. Controllers cannot be charged when not connected to tablet (no word on their battery life). $30 for the Grip that adds charging support.
5. $80 for another pair of Joycons.
6. Pay for online play but get free games?! Not really, only 30 days ownership and then they are taken away.
7. Voice chat is only for subscribers and is provided through an app on a smartphone, no word if the console has it built in.
8. 32GB of storage with much of it taken up by OS.
9. 3rd party support is already terrible, EA isn't even making a good FIFA for it. Only the PS3/X360 Port.
10. It's getting a lot of quick ports even near launch (even Nintendo is making a port of MK8 rather then a new one for their NEW CONSOLE).
11. Capacitive Touchscreen... STILL IN 2017!

We've been notified that its because we expect a small inventory. We were told less than 50 in my store at launch.

I really hope the Wii U version of Zelda is a competent port because I may just go for that one. I don't see much reason to get the Switch for only one game (during 2017) when I can get a version of it for a console I already own.

well according to this ign article the only difference you'll be getting between switch and wii-U version is higher resolution and faster load times (due to cartridge vs disc...moot if its downloaded). FPS is reportedly the same between the two.

I'm not a Zelda fan so that wouldn't be a system seller for me.
Mario Kart MIGHT might have been (I bought my Wii-U bundled with Mario Kart) but I have the exact same game minus the good battle mode pretty much.

Its gonna take more to get me into a Switch. Maybe sometime down the line but not at launch or until there's more noteworthy titles to my liking.

Zelda looks good. I hope they can get it 60fps locked. I will probably pick up a switch when all the craze for it dies down in the summer time.

I won't preorder, will likely get it sometime in summer or fall. It would mostly be used during business trips, and I'm not traveling much during spring and summer, so there's no need to get it soon.

Eurogamer said the screen is really good quality very bright and sharp. Zelda looked better on the tablet. Than the HDTV even with the resolution boost.

I will get one (because I can not because I'm sane) but I suspect most will get one once there is either a price cut or a special edition pokemon bundle.

I think Nintendo should have just waiting till Christmas to release it, they could have just killed the Wii u and carried on with the 3ds for a few months, though. I suspect pressure from investors pushed them.

Same and I agree. Nintendo should have aimed at Christmas. Mario and Zelda as launch titles would have guaranteed launch success.

Though to be fair, a lot of games can be finished in less than that time and then they'll never be touched again. That's the main reason that GameFly and such can exist.

Agreed, would be better if you can play a single VC game as long as you like, then when you're done with it, then you can return it and get a different one. However, that would get in the way of Nintendo basically using the 30 days as advertising and a trial and hoping to lure you into a purchase.

60 fps is not happening, open world and a cpu that is weaker than the toaster cores in the xb1/ps4 is a pretty good guarantee for that.













But on the topic of zelda, if the switch does end up running it at a more stable framerate than the wii u, then I might pick on up at launch.

I hate sub 30 fps games.
