(CNN)The path of a weekend nor'easter is becoming clearer as 75 million people from the Southeast to New England may face dangerous heavy snow and winds approaching hurricane intensity with the potential to knock out power, flood coastal areas and severely impair travel, forecasts show.

The storm is due to form Friday off the coast of the Carolinas and rapidly strengthen as it moves north up the East Coast overnight into Saturday.

Blizzard warnings Friday cover 4 million people in coastal areas from Maine to Massachusetts and from New Jersey to Maryland. Whiteout conditions will make travel difficult to impossible, the National Weather Service predicts. At risk of blowing snow due to high winds are Portland, Maine; Boston; Atlantic City, New Jersey; and Ocean City, Maryland.

"The heaviest snowfall is likely to fall across a swath extending from the Eastern Shore of Maryland up through most of Maine where 6-12 inches are likely. Parts of coastal New England, where blizzard conditions are forecast, may see between 1-2 feet of snow with locally higher amounts possible, specifically over coastal Massachusetts," the Weather Prediction Center said early Friday.

No worries here, we're used to it.

Only really becomes an issue if we get bombarded with multiple storms like this within days of each other. Or if you're in an area susceptible to losing power for long periods of time.

Back last year when we lived in Highlands, NJ it seemed like every time a storm came through it was a big reminder that we lived within a few feet of sea level and could see the Raritan Bay from our house.

This says 15-30 inches of snow in the New York City - Long Island area.

Oh yeah, having your property at sea level is awful. When that water table decides to come up from the ground say bye to your dry basement.

My last house had a basement that would flood during bad storms without a sump pump. When we moved i made sure to buy a house on a hill lol.

Was snowing all day here yesterday, not heavy though. Total accumulation is 1-2+ inches depending on location. It's about 3F this morning but at least there's no wind.

They are saying anywhere from 12 to 24 here depending on the model. I’m just hoping I’m north enough to avoid the ice. Supposed to rain today and tomorrow and turn to ice tomorrow night before the snow comes. Temp supposed to drop to zero on Saturday. I’d rather not be without power at that point

Wow, we're not that far away and the forecast is only giving 1/2 inch of ice and 2 inches of snow. When I was a kid seemed like what you got we got.

Been raining all night, so it's very wet out. Freezing rain started here in Austin about 1-2 hours ago, already had to scrape the ice off my Jeep to go to work. Driving in the roads were mostly fine, some small patches of accumulated ice pellets but nothing crazy, but the temperature is going to continue to plunge, so all this rain is very likely going to cause a hard freeze. Won't get above freezing till Friday afternoon.

Crazy just how long this storm has gotten. Very well endowed.
