It is a remake. I really hate this remake business people make. One or two iconic game is fine, but even Crysis now?

Crysis still looks good apart from some texture looks a bit low resolution. There are some of ToD mods for Crysis plus texture mod to make it look better. It does not need remake.

I see the appeal in some older games like Resident Evil, but even they don't recreate Resident Evil 3 properly, some of the locations are cut.

Come on, Crysis leave us hanging when Prophet goes back to the island. Why don't make the game based on that instead of remake the first game?

Have you actually seen what the new engine can do? Mods can't add RT to Crysis.

RT is still a brand new tech. I wouldn't hold my breath on it, especially with current hardware and implementation.

I remember buying a GTX 980 specifically for Crysis. Many, what an eye orgasm that game was at the time.

If it's priced right and is more than just a texture update, I'll buy again.

I'm guessing a remake/remaster is a much cheaper way of getting IP back out there and funding your business. Crytek isn't exactly known for its full coffers.

Perhaps, if a remake sparks enough interest, they could think about a sequel. You could say the game doesn't need one, but then it's been thirteen years since its release, and if people are willing to buy, then that's their target audience. I'm not interested myself, I'll look for other games. Bring on that C&C/RA remaster in June!

We'll see how this game stacks up. Will it live up to original game? And this remaster even out on Switch?

Yeah I'm waiting for C&C/RA remaster too. There some compatibility issue playing the original on newer Windows so a remaster is very much needed

Software based RT would make sense given the implementation in the new Crytek Engine. But I would hope a hardware acceleration option would be there as well.



That is of course assuming this remake takes advantage of the newest Cryengine and doesn't do something weird like using Amazon's Lumberyard fork of the Cryengine.

Unlikely. As far as we know, it's simple updated textures (MAYBE models) and ray tracing. Not entirely rebuilt.

While not technically RT in the Nvidia RTX sense neither is the RT they're probably gonna be using in the remaster since I would assume Crytek will be using their software based neon noir version they showed off some months back.

Reshade, as stated in that video is effectively screen space only, and even then has no depth information. This barely makes it better than non-RT stuff. In fact it has the same limitations as screen space occlusion techniques (i.e. reflections of things off screen do not happen).

Not only is that video an old one, and the version they used from the start of last year, but the shader uses path tracing which IS ray tracing as it currently stands. Path tracing is the only way for the gpu to run ray tracing at reasonable frame rates and is also how the nvidia **** works.

That being said, the newer iterations of that same shader are so goode, that microsoft copied a lot of it for its own ray tracing in minecraft.

Any chance you can back up anything you're claiming with links? AFAIK the RT in minecraft is hardware based.

You're basically incurring the computation cost for none of the benefit with Reshade.


While it fits some narrow definition of path tracing (i.e. rays sent out of the screen, but what are they interacting with?). It does not really count.
