Personally what I would like is if the game publishers didn't have exclusivity, but just charged a discount if sold through their store. By default all Ubisoft games should be 10% cheaper on Uplay since they keep all the money. I don't know why they don't do that. The game publishers just haven't been aggressive enough at pushing their stores.

But this goes back to what I was saying earlier, that it's pretty easy for these guys to just copy Steam's functionality and policies. People were complaining about that sort of thing in this very thread. The fact that they changed the policy is pretty important.
For publishers and developers Valve requires, by contract, games on Steam cost the same or less as it does on other stores for all major currencies. Only exception is during temporary sales events and selling keys to third party stores (physical and places like GMG, Fanatical, ECT)

So there is no competition of prices unless the develioers and publishers ignore Steam.

Valve has gotten smug and complacent.They need competition.

They don't even make much games anymore and have crapped all over Half Life gamers by not making a new Half Life episode or game.

There's no competition of prices when developers go through Epic exclusively, either.

The longer I watch this progress, the only thing that would make this a Good Thing is if it lights a fire under Valve's backside and they start pumping out AAA releases on their own.

As far as I know, Valve has never had exclusives (other than their own games, of courrse), locking developers out of other storefronts. If they start that practice it could get ridiculous real quick.

Right, there can be no competition for prices except for when developers are willing to take even less then what they get from Steam and sell steam keys the third party companies like Greenman Gaming, Fanatical. It sucks that the only for there to be competition for prices is when the developers are willing to accept less money which is really backwards.

So the hope is that all of this changes the industry to where developers end up getting more money for their work, and hopefully it does entice Valve to do what is needed.

Given that most developers selling professional games are attached to publishers, i doubt the developers get any say in the pricing regardless. Indie devs selling directly on steam are ALREADY getting more of the funds then published developers.

The whole thing is a farce.. we ARE STILL paying for physical packaging and processing in ****ing digital products ffs..

Steam is not the bad guy in any of this...

As of today they pulled out ability to purchase Metro Exodus from Steam. Preorders are still honored, and DLC will be sold to those who own the preorder through Steam. 2020 it comes back. Good thing users still have the Steam forum to bitch about the move.

I wasn't planning on getting it, but it looks like Valve lost another AAA title to Epic's exclusivity contract. Maybe that's the only way Epic can make money.

Epic is not just getting exclusive deals, they are poaching already established games and forcing them and their player base to switch to their launcher only.

Pretty shitty on their part to force everyone to move. I played Dauntless for a good amount and although I already have an Epic account(which I dont really use) I dont think I would appreciate being forced to create a new account on a service I didnt originally sign up for. Especially for a game that I may have put money into.

I wonder if we will see a game come from Steam and force everyone to try and move. I dont think we will because the backlash would be x100 if that happened. Dauntless is somewhat shielded from the shitstorm cause they use their own launcher.

I feel this is kinda knocking on the back door of the ole Playstation Fortnite thing.

Playstation locked your epic games account down to only be able to be used in the Sony ecosystem if you dared link it to their service with no ability to transfer your purchases or progress to another console ecosystem or PC. Now here we are with epic semi locking down and forcibly transferring an account from steam to epic in order to continue playing.

Let us see what the future holds but fuzzy times a coming me thinks and not in a good way :\

So apparently I'm retarded and this was never on steam and they clarified that they aren't forcing people to migrate. This thread lied to me >:E

When in the Epic Launcher looking at Metro in the store the standard version says $29.99 but when going to checkout it says $49.99 USD.

Furthermore once the exchange rate to CAD hits it would be about $66.

Why would the store show a different price than the checkout?

Pretty shady. Didn't plan on buying it until a good sale but thought I'd check it out to see what it would cost.

Umm, I am not exactly sure how the developers/owners of Dauntless are being forced to be on Epic Launcher... Where are you getting that idea?

Also, it looks like it has nothing to do with Epic giving them some kind of exclusive deal, rather they want to use the technology that was created for Fornite for Cross Platform play, so they are wanting to use Epic's services for the game.

So yeah, it is healthy, and this is nothing like the other exclusives that Epic got.

I'm seriously amazed at the butt hurt about launching a game from a different store front, this has been coming for a while now, Epic is my 7th store launcher, had to just count them in my tray. its not like its new. Yes their store is in its infancy and not the best, it will improve, but honestly I don't care as long as it launches the game without issue.

I dont know if its in beta but it definitely has in-game currency that can be bought with real money for awhile now.

It doesn't even have cloud functionality yet. I won't buy anything that doesn't have cloud functionality (except on GOG). Once they incorporate cloud saves, then perhaps I'll give it another look, but for now that's a big nono as I frequently split my gaming between two computers weekly.

I got so much stuff running in my tray, Once again I could careless, I notice no ill affects because of all this running in my tray. I would only care if it was affecting my gameplay, it doesn't, so I don't care.
