It adds ray traced reflections and specular reflectance to all surfaces (ie- rough surfaces) instead of just flat/smooth shiney surfaces like windows. Not too major but adds a bit of polish to the graphics and makes certain materials look more realistic.

Better, CPU much better used, maybe not like Crysis 3 but much improved.

I got it working, played with it a bit the last couple days.

I think there's something wrong with my computer. Sometimes I load up Crysis and it runs beautifully, other times its a stuttery mess.

xbox game bar tells me I'm mostly running over 60fps, but it looks stuttery and feels gross to play. Sometimes enabling v-sync helps fix it, and least for a minute. Seems like there's some kind of massive frame pacing issue. Sad to hear that they don't plan to release any more updates. Maybe AMD can fix it with a driver update.

I'm running at 144hz with freesync, but some games seem to do those better than others. not sure why.

Maybe try an fps cap? Something achievable like 60 or 70 fps. That usually resolves frame pacing issues for me.

Turned out, I still had Radeon Chill turned on, as I had been using that as a frame limiter in a previous driver version that didn't have a specific limiter. I had both the top and bottom targets set to 144fps... I think I had been using that for Doom Eternal or UT2004 or something.

The radeon software has a framerate limiter called "Frame rate target control", that seems to come and go from driver version to version. At least I think that's why I had been using the Chill feature.

I went in to the Radeon software and disabled everything that had to do with framerate, verified that the problem was solved, and then went back in and turned on freesync, etc. Seems to work much better.

So I've got the xbox game bar telling me that Crysis is running between 80-100 fps now. And it does feel much smoother. But somehow it still doesn't really feel buttery smooth, especially when there's alot of action going on. Not sure whether I'm getting micro-stutters that the xbox game bar isn't reporting or what, but it's just not as smooth as I would expect a game to feel at 80+ fps.

I suppose I could try a beefier cpu? Currently running a Ryzen 5600x, which isn't too slouchy. I think I'm good on GPU, as switching to a lower resolution doesn't seem to make any performance difference at all.

oh yeah, and I get some kind of warning every time I start the game... saying my drivers are too old to run RT or DLSS. Although my Radeon drivers are up to date, and they're never going to run DLSS.

edit: Turned on "AMD enhanced sync" and that seems to have done the trick. Maybe not quite 100% butter-smooth, but feels very good now. I have no idea what that setting does, btw.

Oh, and why is Crysis' HDR so ugly? Am I doing something wrong?

I find the HDR implementation doesn't look so great.. I played without it.
