![]() A new video from AMD shows its new hair tech TressFX in action via the just released Tomb Raider. Unfortunately there's no comparison footage, but it gives a good idea of what to expect nonetheless.

![]() As a demo of tressfx it's not very good, the cuts are too fast and the shots aren't bringing out the hair movement and interaction much at all. Looks like good graphics though. |

![]() The physics look good but the implementation looks somewhat rushed, for example the hair floats in the air in some angles, look when it comes in contact with her shoulders showing that the hair do not collides in reality with the visible character but with a hidden simple geometry (like a ragdool works), this is not a bad idea for the contrary, the problem is that the developer that implemented the effect forgot to bring the invisible geometry size to better match the character body right now imo it looks off in some angles, but is nice to see for the first time in a real game more or less what 3DMark03 showed does years ago.

![]() It's a shame that the hair has a tendency to freak out on multi gpu setups. |

also yeah the hair looks more realistic but it doesnt act realistic. She crawls through mud and shoulder high water, yet her hair is bone dry and picture perfect still. I think the normal hair works better from an immersion point of view. |
