I did appreciate the whole social commentary aspect of it and just how stupid society is, because it was pretty spot on, but I have no idea why DiCaprio stopped down to such a low..

I was actually pretty excited to see this movie but it ultimately disappointed.

I also appreciated the social commentary and satire. Was obvious to me that the comet was a metaphor for how the U.S. does not take the climate change crisis seriously enough, and how corrupt politics are. A lot of it was spot on and it really needs to be put out there right now. But wasn't really something I wanted to watch a movie about. It was kind of a bummer to sit through. Mainly because these problems are something I am already well aware of. Also because sadly this movie wont really do any good to change anyone's mind.

Personally I think I would have preferred if instead it was a modern take on the traditional more serious doomsday film. The satire / comedy just felt too forced for this subject matter.

IIRC he has been a big advocate for the climate change movement, and I think this movie was a metaphor for it. During his big speech on that talk show near the end its almost like he wasn't even acting, but venting his actual frustrations.

I wouldn't call it terrible. It definitely kept my attention to the end and I think a lot of the jokes were intentionally cringey, for the sake of being satirical. Just thought it was going to be better.

Its worth a watch IMO, especially since on Netflix so didn't cost me anything extra.

Social commentary-wise, excellent. As a “comedy” it was garbage. Took me 2 tries to finish because I fell asleep the first time.

I loved it. It relates very well with my work environment and even country situation where real work is done by people nobody knows while all top positions are taken by idiots who call the shots for their own benefits. I think it is relative more than where I live too.

I get what this movie was trying to do but I just felt frustrated AF watching it. Pretty sure that was what they were trying to do with it.

Overall, I give it a 7/10.

It was just a little too 'real' to be considered a comedy to me.

I thought it was pretty good. I thought it was more a commentary on COVID-denial stuff because of the immediacy of the danger and the president seemed fairly Trump-like, but that's in the eye of the beholder.

I liked how DiCaprio's character, one of the smartest of them all, fell for the dazzling allure of the BS.

Could be climate change, covid vaccinations, or election-related topics. Film fits well with a variety of topics.

Agreed. I think they cleverly left it open in that way.

After thinking more about it I think the main message behind the film isn't so much the comet being a metaphor for any particular crisis, but more so how we as a society react to that crisis, whatever it may be.

The movie did a good job showing several different perspectives of reaction - the general public's, the media's, and the government's, and all of it scares the hell out of me.
