cpu :39055 (cpu score is so high because physx was enabled)

What is wrong with my PC?

4870 1GB CF
Cat 9.3

Look at my CPU test #2 score. It is very low compared to other Core i7's.

I have hyper threading turned off, but that shouldn't make such a huge difference... *edit* Is the cause PhysX on nVidia GPUs that inflate the score?

(Also I get a bunch of little graphical glitching in the first two GPU tests... Only in Vantage, not in games)

A PPU or GPU using Physx can process the physics effects much much faster than the i7 can, and so it gets a higher score. That is all...

This is my result and as you can see, the physx capability makes a huge difference in the CPU score.

I think with that kind of power, even gaming at 2560x1600 would be a waste. That just begs for an eyefinity resolution.

Well, I suppose there could be some bandwidth limitation but from my experience the ability of ATi's newer cards to handle high resolution and high AA borders on the uncanny.

Anyway, I suppose waiting for some higher resolution benchies would be the best idea considering the cash involved in such a setup.

Well i had 4 3870 CF & unfortunately 512MB Vram was the problem most of the time in getting the most out of them at 2560x1600.

3x3870 was the sweet spot.

I feel you, when I was rocking tri-sli all of the time I would often hit bottlenecks from my frame buffer really early even though the cards had more power to spare.

From what I have seen though, the 48XX series and up seem to make more efficient use of the bandwidth and frame-buffer. At least, that is at least what I assumed from ATi being able to pull away in many benchmarks as resolution went over 1920x1200 and AA went to 8xAA.

So I could certainly see this pushing eyefinity quite well, though obviously more frame-buffer would always be nicer.

I would of liked to try 1GB versions but they came out far to late from Sapphire & very hard to find.

I agree, the frame-buffer bottleneck is perhaps the most frustrating, since while I can increase my CPU clock speed, I can't increase the amount of ram the card has.

So there really isn't anything that can be done.

That is why the 9800GX2 suffered so much. I'm glad I didn't own one.
