Default New Phone... BlackBerry BOLD

Got it on Monday and i thought some of you would like to see what it looks like. Here are some quick snaps and a video showing some web stuff and some other menu goodies.

Its much wider than the Curve it replaced, but the length and thickness is pretty much the same. The menus are definitely prettier which the screen i find is plenty bright and crisp. I'm really diggn the web portion of these new Bolds, finally a BB that displays web properly.... it was such a headache before with the previous gens. Its a little bigger than what im use to seeing that this actually grew in size rather than shrinking like previous gens, but i think im going to get use to that as i use it more. The keys, im having a hard time adjusting to them meaning im always double guessing on what im pressing which takes me longer to type something. What's happening is that I keep thinking im pressing a letter but in reality im actually not, i think its just the layout as the keys seem to be more low profile when compared to the Curve... so it may just be a matter of me adjusting to it. So far im really happy with it, but there are some quirks that i need to play around with to see if its just a config issue or if the phone actually is designed like that.

Here's a 66mb video file that shows you it in action.

I wish I still lived in Canada right now, lol.

I am anxiously waiting for the Bold myself, stupid AT&T is really testing my patience right now!

Thanks for the vid and pics, looks great!

How's the keypad? More like the one of Curve or 8800? It looks like the latter one from the pictures to me, but I can't quite tell if there is any space between the keys.

P.S. I hate keypad on my 8800.

Its been a while since ive used the 8800 but id say its more like the curve but not as defined. The 8800 i think had even more of a harsher edge/lip to the keys. The Lip/edge of the buttons that go up isnt as sharp and thick... its like its been smoothed down which i think is throughing me off a little as im used to feeling that.

Heres a closer pic:

Doesn't matter to me. My company pays for mine (Curve) so I don't care what I get.

Why is that phone better than the Curve?
I got real excited when RIM went from the 7000 to the 8000 series but this just isn't doing much for me. Thunder might be cool though.

G.I. Bro can you post some still photos from the camera? Is the camera any better in this?

Because the screen size is smaller, the Bold screen is "better" than the iPhone's (in terms of resolution, not necessarily for watching video). It's a sight to behold, even side-by-side. The difference in readability is astounding between the 88xx and Bold. The UI is more polished as well and looks good with the new screen. I also kind of liked the faux-leather backing.

Of course, from what I've read, battery life is about equal to the iPhone now, which sucks.

Well there are some nice additions such as 3G WiFi new screen and web along with a nicer gui, but you dont really get the right feel for it until you have it in your hand and play with it for a bit.

I initially thought the same, ahhhhh big deal, but if i go and pick up my Curve it just feels dated to me. Yes, it does 90% of the things that this can do, but, ive been spoiled too much with newer tech and i cant see myself going back.

As for the camera, i think its the same thing. I dont have any shots to show you, but i did take a movie this afternoon. Its a 4.5mb 3GP file.

Ill take some pics tomorrow.

The leather backing is a nice touch, not only does it make the product look more polished but it will help against daily scuffs and such. As for the battery, my last charge was last night with it being fully charged as i woke up 7am, with it being 12:35am now im down to 3 bars left out of 5. Not bad because ive used it quite a bit today... from watching recorded movies i took, listening to the sample songs/movies, using the GPS, surfing around and to just some playing as i try to learn/customize it a bit.

Yes, you're right. Upon closer inspection this one resembles Curve more. Which is a good thing in my book!

Thanks!

My Curve has WiFi.
I also have a pre-release firmware on it so I can take movies with it now.

Have you tried the Opera browser on either Blackberry?

I laid down the text graphics on the keyboard... and the rogers symbol.

The bold is nothing. Wait till you see ... the bomb they planted inside my brain.

Seriously, it looks sweet. By buddy works in server tech support or something at RIM, he's been beta testing the 9000 for a while now. Ass is always bragging about how nice his phone is. I can't wait to try this phone out, bye bye iPhone.

haha. Well, the ball is pretty good once you get used to it. That's the thing with BlackBerrys. you give it to an ordinary person, and they go... wow! what do i do??? It's so complicated...

And you try to take it away from a blackberry user and they'll slap you for touching it.

We're trying to change that problem.

How's HP treating ya?

I'm no longer on the Industrial Design team so no, you won't see any of my stuff coming out anytime soon (on within the next few years at least).

I'm on the concept team, which is even fricken better.
