![]() For me as a PC gamer, this means Microsoft is more than ever invested in making gaming work, and their efforts at making PC gaming work have never been more ambitious. Since Activision's titles were already on PC though, there's no direct upside on this front. For me as an (occasional) Game Pass user, this means more cool games available to play freely, at a relatively low cost. That's going to be a positive, as I think game passes have a solid future as part of the hobby. I don't see an MS Game Pass coming to Steam, so that's something that's on my mind, but I've always been open to platforms and stores if their offer was solid. For me as a Playstation gamer, it doesn't mean a thing: I only play on Playstation when the exclusives are worth it. Having exhausted the PS4 exclusives I cannot resist, I've even sold the console. From an industry point of view, I've always thought Microsoft needed a much stronger in-house capability to challenge Sony's exclusives. However, I always thought that meant attracting studios and new IP, not buying up existing studios and IP. Exclusivity isn't a very cool thing for gamers in general, and having several behemoth franchises and studios move toward MS and away from Sony doesn't add to the market, it takes away. Even if that doesn't have a direct effect on me and my gaming habits, from an industry point of view I don't think this is a positive development.

![]() I have such mixed feelings on this. On one had it's great, and the other not so much. I could see them gobbling up Square Enix.... but EA, I don't know. I think EA like's their little money machine right where it is.

![]() Honestly, this acquisition doesn't have me as excited as I was for Bethesda/Zenimax. Maybe it's because I haven't been interested in much coming out of Activision/Blizzard for a long time. Also, to me anyway, it feels like it's a bit less about gaming and more of a super powerplay to try to "keep up with the Joneses", ie. Tencent. Regardless, it's a good thing Microsoft will be cleaning house after the acquisition is complete.

![]() They have some classics they could bring back. Interstate, SiN, Heavy Gear, Heretic... but honestly... it's not that rich. Imho EA's stack of IP absolutely dwarfs Actiblizz. And I think thats one of the reasons I can't see EA giving in to a buy out. They have so much more to pull from than Actiblizz imho.

![]() So putting a bit more thought into this. People keep saying this is about CoD. Or Blizzard stuffs. And the idea that this is mainly to compete with Sony. Sure, those are nice, but... This is primarily for battle.net, to compete with Valve. And Epic's store. The windows game store has failed to compete. Battle.net is a very strong contender to build MS's PC game platform on. Activistion has been very successful at migrating users to their store instead of steam. That's gigantic. Especially to hedge bets against potentially disruptive trends like SteamDeck or Apple getting serious about PC games. All this dovetails nicely with Gamepass too. Also gives MS a smart in-roads into e-sports, with Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm. Lots of other properties that MS can do something with thought. Skylanders, for example. Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, etc. It's an endless playground for MS to play with. Gives MS a ton of flexibility in the future. Gives them very strong avenues, even if both xbox and windows were to evaporate. MS could go ahead and publish games on Playstation and Mac, and still be a dominant player in the industry. Heck, leveraging this to pressure Sony to include xbox gamepass on Playstation could be an amazing business model. MS has enormous flexibility to re-frame it's games business now.

![]() Just so you guys dont get to carried away with who they will buy next. I have no doubt they only were able to buy activation because of the **** happening in the company at the moment. This is a perfect opportunity to bail out, and a 70b severance package is just too hard to pass up. I dont think they could buy squarenix, or nintendo or any of that stuff. Not because of the money though.

![]() Completely Microsoft's fault. Mistake (1) - Trying to tie the store to the OS / microsoft-account - should have been tied to an email like other platforms Mistake (2) - Hiding the game files and game exe's behind their stupid UWP file system, so nothing was editable for tweaks or mods Mistake (3) - Games ran in their stupid windowsapps/UWP interface, causing issues (like inaccurate aspect ratios / stretching on ultrawidescreen in some titles) Mistake (4) - Trying to make the windows game store a do-it-all-store for all devices. Developing an app to work on all platforms, esp mobile, is detriment to the experience that most PC Gamers are looking for. Kinda like the Windows 8 UI - MS forgot that most PC gamers and PC power users don't want mobile feces on their platforms.
