So if I bought the DK2 today odds are I would not get it for at least another three months.

Then I might as well wait. Besides it may be better to use those funds to add an additional Nvidia 780 for my rig to get it better prepared.

Seems that everything that has been pre ordered will be delivered by late September, so you might not have to wait much more than a month to get yours...

Warthunder (Free to Play Flight game on Steam) is the only one I know of right now, I have not dug very deep so there are likely more.
Seen people play Elite for example, so that likely works.

I was only looking for native support briefly, so who knows about the third party tool stuff.

It is an amazing thing that VR is inexorably tied to mobile cell phone displays.

I believe that is probably the single most factor that is delaying the Oculus to market. However that new screen is probably right around the corner.

Thats because they didnt have the cash to develop their own screens.
Now with FB they got just that and can develop screens made for VR

They also have a partnership with samsung, I wouldnt be surprised if that will yield a tailored display panel to suit their needs.
Phone panels are a good stepping stone but at the end of the day they have very different needs, one is viewed very close to the eye, magnified through a lens.

Now that I've tried my glasses since last week, there's only one thing to note....Future models will continue to be improved even more, so does this Kill Eyefinity and Nvidia surround with 3 displays, or even single displays using 120Hz refresh and shutter glasses, when in a gaming environment?


The reason I ask is that the glasses allow the user to look in any direction well beyond where a display would be, and can look and aim in different directions, so it's hugely more immersive than the above solutions so good bye triple displays for gaming and higher refresh single display(120Hz).

I'm guessing that once resolution gets further increased and so will refresh rate, that even in a competitive gaming environment it'll also be better than any other option?.

That is usually how it happens. The Oculus (VR in general) is going to change everything.

I cannot wait, going to be exciting seeing PC hardware come back full force and developers having something new to play in.

Well for me, unless the game in question is played in 3rd person view, it even changes the fundamental problem I was having with regards to video card upgrades, in which i'd need models with a huge amount of onboard memory to eventually drive three 4K displays for both work and gaming.


So getting monitors for those types of games is beyond overkill, since I don't play that many of them, and using the glasses for 1st person style shooters or flight/space simulations also saves hugely on video card memory too, since the resolution will be far lower than using 3 panels even if next year's consumer model uses a 2560*1440 display.


So I not only save money not having to change of 1440p screens, but also relieved of that memory constraint too, while providing more immersion from a 300~350$ screen you wear on your face and tracks head movements....Cool, get my cake and eat it too..

if the keep all facebook crap off the consumer model I would hope for 1600p if not a 4k version and displayport 1.2a+

Can you imagine reading with font that small though?...I'd almost need a magnifying glass to read some types for sure.

will use my regular screen for everything else (net and 2d stuff)

Ideally you adjust the font size to the DPI or resolution, besides the screen is right up in your face and the optics zoom into it.
Which is why the 1080p screen they have now is insufficient and still have very strong screendooring.

Besides, if you setup up a huge virtual screen for windows desktop (or whatever), you can always lean into it to read text closer if you need to.

Must have some pretty strong magnification since i'm reading now at 2560*1440 on a 28" screen, so even though the DK2's are only 1920*1080, the surface area is much smaller at just 5" diagonally, so the pixels are much smaller and packed more closely together.


I didn't try them in any text on a white background (probably the worst case scenario), but might do that over the next couple of days just for kicks, but given how visible it is in the picture you linked, changing to 4k on the same size screen would still be visible quite easily, since the pixels are only half as wide and half as tall as what you see on the image at 1080p.....The screen door effect would still be visible with enough magnification.

That i new about since that screen size and resolution is already featured on the largest cell phones like the Note 3.....It's more like a phone and a mini tablet once you reach that size.

I'll probably buy one once it's actually available, especially if it's out for 300$, but I won't regret having fun with the DK2 in the meantime.

Going beyond this size in a meaningful way while keeping it compact as possible is the real challenge
