GPU Folding

With the power and flexibility of modern GPUs, there has been a lot of speculation about the possibility of using a graphic card's GPU for Folding.

Interestingly, in a thread on this topic first published in 2002, Vijay himself states that Pande Group is working with both ATi and nVidia toward this end. When The Man himself gets involved, things begin looking rather promising!

I think I saw a newspost a few weeks ago at Beyond3d as well..
the problem with the GPU is not it's power (anything that can process multiple gigabytes per second is powerfull) but its limited architecture when it comes to available registers etc.

IF there will be a GPU folding application, it will have a very limited purpose but it is definitly an added bonus if you can raise the speed of your research by say 5~10% if you incorporate a video cards GPU..

How ready the GPU Gromacs (or are there other cores in the work as well?) currently is?
Is it more like 2 months away for the release or is it 1 year or even 2 years away?

Meh, better later then never. If it turns up by year's end and it runs on all modern DX9 hardware (including ATI cards) then I'll be happy. My X800 XL is begging me for something to do

What if How works for the military and all of his systems have high-end E&S multi-gpu visualization systems? Then you'd be screwed!!!
