Default Return to Monkey Island -Lucasfilm Games +DD + Terrible Toybox !!!

A new monkey island game with Ron Gilbert's involvement (via terrible toybox) coming this year.

Best news of the year so far

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sahs...evolverDigital

Not much there with the exception of the publisher and developers names, but anything to do with monkey island esp. with Gilbert's involvement is a day one purchase for me.

Edit: the Video says a game by "Ron Gilbert" and its NOT 1st April!!

I really hope it's not in that cheap browser art and animation style of the teaser...

Let’s hope they do Monkey Island right. People must’ve forgotten MI4.

I know Ron worked on Tales of MI but it would be interesting to see a legit MI3.

Not saying Curse or Tales were bad.

I remember getting stuck for days, and eventually discovered that I had to walk on a broken plank on some dock to kick a bird up into the sky... maybe you get an egg or a feather or something? I wandered around every part of the game world over and over again, prolly for 10s of hours, before I finally figured out that stupid plank.

I don't think we had access to walkthroughs back then. This was maybe 1995?

You'd get walkthroughs in magazines and dedicated books. There were ones online, but they were rarer, and where the gamefaqs website was built from.

Gamepad Latest Return to Monkey Island Clip Shines Light on Streamlined UI

Guybrush Threepwood is getting ready for his long-awaited return.

Another Monday, another Return to Monkey Island clip for us all to pore over.

The latest clip from creator Ron Gilbert shows the game's new streamlined UI, with prompts appearing on-screen as hero Guybrush Threepwood explores the Scumm Bar on Melee Island.

When the cursor moves across the screen in this clip, messages such as "Time to talk to the pirate leaders" and "Smells good in there" pop up. The interactions shown do not appear intrusive, and seem to offer a clever way of keeping the story moving along.

In addition to this new clip, Return to Monkey Island is also making a showing at Gamescom's Opening Night Live tomorrow. On this, publisher Devolver Digital has promised some "big Return to Monkey Island news". I am thinking we may - at long last - get a release date...

Gamepad Returning to Monkey Island with Its Legendary Creators @ Eurogamer

Return to Monkey Island, the sixth and final entry in the Monkey Island series of adventure games, will be released this Monday.

Ahead of Return to Monkey Island's release next week, I sat down with series creator Ron Gilbert, co-writer Dave Grossman and art director Rex Crowle to discuss the series' surprise revival. It's a project many thought would never happen, but which had actually been in secret development for two years (two years!) before its April Fool's Day announcement a few months ago.

Speaking via video call, it was clear the trio had a great passion for what they do - and also an oversized Stan S. Stanman cutout, which loomed over Gilbert's shoulder. (This turned out to be a prop from a recent PAX trip liberated by Gilbert, thanks to the series' iconic distraction of "Look! A three-headed monkey". Apparently, this move works "every time".)

In addition to sharing more about Return to Monkey Island, including details of its under-wraps hint system, we spoke about the future of the series, scrapped plans to break up Guybrush and Elaine, and even ideas for Elaine Marley to lead her own game - as well as some Monty Python influences thrown in for good measure.

Gamepad Return to Monkey Island Review @ Eurogamer

The final game in the Monkey Island series has received a positive review from Eurogamer’s Christian Donlan.

I appreciate I have made the pivot to the new game rather late here - even by my wonky standards. The thing is, though, I could probably argue that this is thematic, even harmonious. Because Return to Monkey Island is deeply, deeply in love with the first Monkey Island, The Secret of Monkey Island. In love with it, in thrall to it, in step with its famous beats and itinerary. It deviates, sure, and adds its own glorious new additions to the series, including at least one great new character and a handful of glittering new islands, none of which I will spoil. But from the off it feels like a succession of cherished trinkets dropped into the kind of magical voodoo cooking pot that turns up so often in these games. A spell is being worked. Spiritual successor? The spirit part is right. This is almost an attempt to summon the bright ghosts of the past.

I will honestly try to spoil nothing but the basics. Guybrush Threepwood, the Judge Rheinhold pirate wannabe, is back and eager to really crack the secret of Monkey Island this time. He returns to Melee Island, the series' best location. It's night. The lookout is still blind. Guybrush is still after a ship and a crew and - to be honest - a bit of a plan. He knows what he wants: treasure. But he doesn't know how to get it. And so you set off.

I'm seeing positive reviews allround.

I never got further into Monkey Island than the demo for the, what, third game circa 1997 I think. Absolutely loved it, but 12 year old me had to choose between Monkey Island and DOOM, so I have no idea what the rest of the Monkey Island games were like.

I swear I'll get around to the franchise some time soon... ish.

Finished it - took about 14 hours on the 'Casual' difficulty setting. Only gotten stuck a few times, but eventually gotten through it without using the in game hints.

When you have the game that sells itself as well as having the entire plot focusing on finding the "Secret of Monkey Island," it's bound to be controversial and it will definitely will be once you discover it.

That said, I really enjoyed the game. The artwork looks a lot better in motion and there's plenty of callbacks from previous games especially through the use of music.

Well maybe I should have played it on hard. Finished casual in about 6.5 hours. I read all of the dialogue but since the voice work is very slow vs. me reading it, I skipped through a lot of the voice over, which probably saved me a few hours I guess? Casual was pretty easy puzzle wise, didn't use any hints but I didn't solve everything immediately.

I've played bits of the monkey island games before so some references were clear, many others were not. I think people that played more of the previous games will definitely get more out of it than I did, given how many call backs there seems to be. Overall it was alright, maybe 7/10. I honestly didn't find it very funny. Sometimes it was mildly amusing. The art style is okay, most of the time, but kinda meh in places. Voices and music were pretty good.
