I know I'm getting up in age and possibly don't care to keep up with internets other than the most mainstream, but what is this site? Purpose? Use?

i joined there when digg v4 was released.

its not just news since you can do self posts to a subreddit

I'm probably the only one on the entire intertubes that doesn't go there simply because I think the format is a mess.

it's an entirely user generated content site, so it does aggregration, reporting, discussion, reposts, knowledge sharing, marketing etc etc etc all in one spot.

I think Raz would like the photography subreddits (think of subforums). in a lot of different fields there are some very knowledgeable people but you've got to learn how to filter out the crap.

And of course he'll like gonewild.

I use it quite a lot, but yes, the format is crazy (its old style message board, with nesting etc that is just junk to me)

THe AMA(ask me anything, where celebrities and people open them selves up to questions, Larry King was was great) and TIL are 2 I read a bunch, also there is a Identify this Bug/Identify this Plant section which is very useful.

the fitness section is kinda useful for fitness noobies

This. I hear people talking about it, and all I see is a mess of links and some 1990's style website. I couldn't figure out what the fuq I was suppose to be doing on it. Now I hear that Digg was the same thing, but died (I missed that boat I guess) and is about to relaunch. That's why I'm curious.

I hate reddit, at least 90 percent of it. I've realized a lot of whats on there is made up stories, and pictures that people try to pass as their own or the picture is strategically made to back up their bullshit stories, just for the upvotes mind you. The entire system revolves around just that, upvotes. As bad as 4chan is, it's a much better system as far as talking amongst each other, people don't get downvoted just because you didn't like what someone said.

Back on the bullshit posts and fake/stolen images, Reddit has an entire sub section dedicated for just that called "redditliars". So its not strange to see a post at the top get called out days later for being completely made up or stolen, it's happened many many times. I dunno, I just really hate the "me me me" attitude the site has.

Not to mention they are wayyy too political, even for a bleeding heart liberal myself, that place disgusts me

Did going to the site and looking at it cross your mind? nvm

I am guessing you spent 20 seconds on it? I admit it is not the most straightforward format in the world, but after 2 minutes, you should be able to get it... It took my 9 year old brother 5 minutes to figure out how to navigate the site and get to where he needed. Obvisouly I supervised ;)

It took me a few visits to really sink in, but now I'm a regular there.
Same goes for my 13 yo son.

Lost of interesting and useful subreddits for just about anything you can think of.
Yes, layout is not very Web 2.0, but it serves the purpose...

I like reddit for the most part. There are so many people there that new content is coming in all the time, usually as it is happening. There are shitty parts about it, but you have that with any website where user's make up the majority of the content.

Nice thing about it is, you can find a subreddit for just about any interest you might have. The r/askscience and r/gaming subreddits I find pretty damn interesting.

The worst thing about reddit is it is a time sink. :bleh:

Reddit is pretty awesome in some sections I would say :cool:

It's a great site to kill time at if you are bored and looking for a laugh.
