Who has the best MB's these days?

I have been an ASUS guy for a while. The last 4 MB's I hve got for myself have all been ASUS ROG Formula boards. I got the 5 kiddo's Srtix MB's for lockdown computer. My current MB (Maximus Formula XI) has been a champ but there are others out there that did more for less money.

Anyway, I'm looking to upgrade this next cycle and I'm thinking maybe I'm stuck in an ASUS rut. I'm looking to do a high-end computer. Either a 7950x or 13900k.

So, I'm wondering who you guys think has good quality boards these days?

I think most people will tell you MSI. I don't have a problem with ASUS but I think MSI does more for overclockers when it comes to the board features and I think the look of MSI's boards are a little nicer as well. Asus was killing it 6 years ago in the aesthetics department but I'm not a big fan of the look on the new ones. It's an evolution of the old look but they all have a similar style that looks kind of blocky and too focused on RGB instead of the board itself. I haven't experienced any problems on any asus boards with a moderate OC. Asus was a little slow on the resizable bar support for my board but they updated it eventually and I have had no problems. The biggest issue people have is what you already mentioned. During the chip shortages Asus boosted it's prices heavily and many of it's competitors kept the prices tighter while offering slightly more expensive features like better power delivery ect. Things like that don't matter to 98% of us but those of us that push things hard appreciate the extra effort.

Asus for features. MSI for delayed bios releases and stupid things missing on motherboards like reset switch.

Personally ASUS tbh. Every now and then there is an anomaly though, like the MSi unify.

I would go with Asus or MSI. The difference is not that big. MSI may have better at memory overclocking on Intel Z390 series, but I don't know about on more recent platforms.

I used to swear by Gigabyte, but I've had some real frustrations with Gigabyte boards in recent years, to the point I would no longer recommend them. Can't speak for Asrock.

I agree, you pretty much summed it up. The look of the board comes down to the individual and while MSI has had a slight advantage to extreme overclockers ASUS still delivers the goods while offering stable overclocks. I haven't had any problems with any of my ASUS boards over the years. MSI has a solid product as well. Come to think of it, I havn't owned anything but MSI and Asus for probably a decade. three out of the four boards were ASUS. I read up on the various boards and see comments on them from other users but I don't have any experiance with any other brands over the last decade so I really can't comment on Gigabyte.

I've seen some board designs for the 670 E but so far I haven't seen anything for the Z790 platform so it's hard to say what they will look like comparatively this gen. The 670E design for the ASUS Crosshair doesn't really appeal to me and most of the ASUS boards have been like that the last few years. Stripes with the ROG logo lit up with overboard RGB. Yuck. I really like the look of the MSI 670E ACE this time, I might go with that if I buy AMD.

I love my ROG Crosshair VI Hero, but I also love my MSI MAG Z590 Tomahawk. I think they're both great boards for what they are and the price point they fit in. I think the top tier ASUS boards are by far the best boards on the market, but I think MSI hits the mid and lower-range much harder with a lot more value.

With that being said, I outright refused to buy any MSI Motherboard for almost 18yrs because of how God awful my K7N2G-L was back in the day.

Some of the Gigabyte boards are actually pretty good, especially most of the AORUS line. I had 3 ASRock boards, and I loved them all. 2 Z77 boards, and 1 Z99 board. With that being said, their Z590 boards looked to be complete crap.

I've actually found Asrock to be solid if simple mobos. I'm currently running two of their B450 Pro 4s with Ryzen 1600s @ 3.9GHz and they've been awesome.

Inexpensive, reliable, good support. I likes 'em. :D
