The FSR Thread (Announcements & Discussion)

Awesome article looking into the INT8 version of FSR4 that leaked. While it is in German, translation if often built into browsers these days and it is worth a look. They go into some benchmarking and image quality analysis with both images & videos to really dig in and show us the current state of affairs. 10/10 highly recommended to take a look.

Cool interview mostly software side but some vague answers... felt like FSR4 for RDNA 2 and 3 will be via optiscaler.

Looks like Blackops 7 is going to be the first games with Machine learning based FSR-FG, which means this will be the first look at something from AMD Redstone.

Only for the 9000 series tho. Lets hope we get an update on 7000 series support.
It's expected to be RDNA4 only imo, but it hasn't been entirely confirmed. We might get a surprise of wider FSR4 support... but that is also just speculation based on the FSR4 INT8 leak.

Worth remembering that the FSR - Ray Reconstruction as seen in COD:BO7 seems to be a pre-release version. As the version number on FSR-RR's files is v0.9. So it being RDNA4 only... doesn't necessarily mean that the release version will be as well.

And Redstone is now officially confirmed to just be for RDNA4's Radeon RX 9000 series. No surprise announcement of wider support. So what will become of the FSR4 INT8 that's out and already usable is still unknown.

Techpowerup also has a pretty nice write up.

Alright so the long short.

New Features from Redstone
- All features have debuted as RDNA4 only (so Radeon RX 9000 series)
- FSR - Frame Generation, gained ML to improve visual quality. Driver side/dll up-gradable for all games with FSR-FG v 3.1.4 and newer.
- FSR - Ray-Regeneration was officially unveiled. Games coming next year.
- FSR - Radiance Caching. ML based method to reduce having to constantly cast n' calculate RT rays for things like GI.

Branding Changes for marketing
- The full "FidelityFX Super Resolution" isn't going to be used anymore, it's just going to be "FSR"
- Similarly, they are dropping numbering as well for marketing, so it's just "FSR"

More details
- FSR - Frame Generation - here
- FSR - Ray-Regeneration - here
- FSR - Radiance Caching - here

What didn't happen
- FSR4 based on INT8 for broader compatibility was not unveiled here.
(so use of the leaked version compiled by a user still needed to use FSR4 INT8)

FSR-FG with ML appears to be a little broken...

And ComputerBase also had some pretty great analysis. Note the site is in german, so you may need to use Translation

They suspect its a driver issue

Ancient Gameplays seems to think this as well. As they demo using Optiscaler to handle the FSR-FG ML upgrade instead of the drivers and it doesn't have the issue. They also demo that the previously know fixes to smooth out (FSR3-FG with V-Sync On + FrameCap just below your displays max) also tends to work with the new ML FG.

Ya it is impressive that performance upscaling is so useful now with DLSS. Im sure AMD will catch up there as well. And as said if PSSR AI upscaling on Sony works that well on older gpu tech it should eventually as well for older Radeon.
