Star Wars - Rogue One

Bah. I'm not buying any of the new Star Wars or Marvel stuff (post Disney buyout) until they start releasing in 4k. None of that upscaled garbage either. If you make $1 billion + with every film you release you can damn well afford to keep it 4k throughout the production process.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. Have Ep 1-7 on Bluray and have no intention to buy Rogue one until I get a full 4K HDR capable setup. I actually like the prequel trilogy more than Rogue One (which isn't nearly as well edited/directed as any other Star Wars film) but hey, Star Wars is Star Wars. I'm going to buy everything in Ultra Bluray regardless.

Was there mention of one?? Id like a longer cut...

No mention, and thinking more on it I think there isn't gong to be one.

There's no extended cut for TFA, and of the cut scenes in Rogue One it seems they were removed for reasons other than the normal time/pacing excuse. The original vision for Rogue One was darker and Disney did not like that. My guess is they wont all of a sudden have a change of heart.

Other than that, the Star Wars series has a bad track record with special editions anyways. The theatrical cuts usually tend to be the best versions. Of course that's more of a George Lucas thing though.;)

Don't they do "Diamond edition" versions of old movies? Maybe the actual movie is no different, I just figured the name means something...

If memory serves, the Diamond Editions of the old Disney movies are run through a filter to enhance the colour saturation, but are otherwise exactly the same with no additional footage. Oh, and they have tweaked box art to make them a collectable.

Thinking about picking up the Best Buy exclusive steel book edition today.
Meh. It'd be nice if they didn't foist the 3D Blu-ray on you in order to get it. It's bad enough with the DVD's that are included in damn near every new release Blu-ray. I just went with the standard release. Picked it up at my local Target on Tuesday. Would have likely ordered it off Amazon but they're still in their spat with Disney so it's not even available.

So you guys know, regular version has the movie in BluRay and the rip is excellent.
It also has a DVD and a separate BluRay for the special features... (3 disk total)

I saw it again, and I noticed for the first time that there was a Red 5 pilot at the end space battle, and that he got wrecked. So that's why there was a Red 5 opening for Luke to fill.

Not bad, far better than TFA. I definitely think it needs a longer cut to flesh out those character bonds that it tries to force down in the back half. I give it about 7.5/10

Felicity Jones >> Daisy Ridley

Tarkin looks far worse than I was expecting. Must be uncanny valley or something but they really should not have used him so much. Leia wasn't good either but only briefly used.

shame that none of the characters get to go around again but I guess it's refreshing in a way
