Screens are getting out of control....

Hidden in plain sight
So alot of car manufacturers are utilizing the bigass doublewide screen that spans the drivers gauge cluster and the center stack.....its making alot of the interiors look the same....

-Some cars have a stacked double screen setup on their center stack because of course they can.

-The Mercedes Benz EQ series of EV's have screens that span the entire dashboard.....

-The Jeep Wagoneer has a screen on the passenger side of the dash in addtion to whatever screens they used on the center stack.

-Alot of luxury cars have screens in the back seats for various functions, usually in the middle

With BMW's ugly new 7 series, they have found a new spot for a screen.....where the door handle is.....
It looks like an iphone replaced a door grab handle......:bleh:

Who knew that Pimp my ride was foreshadowing the future of automotive trends.....

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Makes me think of steering yokes and other (IMHO) stupid KITT type "innovations".

They cant make cars fast enough for lack of chips then they do this... I can imagine the typical car now has orders of magnitude more silicon in them now than just a few years ago.

They look cool, but when you spend time trying to do basic **** we used to do with simple knobs, that's time your eyes aren't on the road. My RAM at least has basic AC controls on the loaded 12" screen model I have, but that's about it. Everything else has to be done using the touch screen, or using these lame as push to talk buttons that just make you want to drive off the side of a bridge...

And when things go kaput......

Thats gonna be a lot of $$$$ allocated to fixing/replacing things.

It used to be if your gauge cluster dies, you replace the guages.
Now if your gauge cluster dies in that dual screen setup....i think you have to replace the entire piece of screen.....so you're changing out the guages AND unnecessarily, the center screen.

You know... I remember when they where showing off and using custom LCD's that where shaped to fit into the dash's. Now they are just getting lazy/supply chain crunched into plopping simple rectangular screens on. Kinda lame.

That said, digging the super ultrawide for the rear seat infotainment screen. That's kind of cool. Although you completely loose your view out the rear view window and would have to rely on a craptastic camera system.
