Official nVidia 3d, IZ3D or other solution Stereo Thread

TBH, I just don't know much about the quality of 3dvision with the G-sync monitors -- information is tough to find. On the surface, I like the Asus Swift as a nice gaming monitor, lots of flexibility and gaming features --but 3dvision info is spotty.

Have you been able to dig up any info? The lack of solid 3d vision testing these days is disappointing. I used to love 3d vision blog reviews

Ncx from hardforum used to do good 3d vision comparisons as well

I probably missed it, but it just says 3dvision didn't work and the display didn't register as a supported model. Can you link the part where they actually got it to work and tested it? Cheers.

I didn't see any mention. I went to look through hardforum to see if anything had changed since but there are so many qc issues with that display at the moment that 3d vision support is the last of people's concerns at the moment

Ahh ok. Yeh I don't think it can run 3D without severe crosstalk tbh, and as such is not officially supported.

Not happy about the widespread issues, was going to pick up one of these.. Should I take the gamble? I probably will. I probably wouldn't care too much about a little back light bleed or small shifts in uniformity, but if there are severe issues I'll be pissed. As long as it works without dead pixels and a severe case of either of those issues I'll be happy, I think. I don't really notice those issues as much in game and the display offers a great deal of other benefits that I desperately want.

The ROG SWIFT PG278Q is compatible with the NVIDIA® 3D Vision™ 1 and 2 kits* to support up to three WQHD displays for immersive multi-display 3D gaming experience. ROG SWIFT provides the finest 3D gaming and content viewing experience and thanks to the ever-growing library of over 700 3D Vision™ ready game titles, as well as 3D Blu-ray movies and YouTube 3D Playback support. See everything in a new dimension with the ROG SWIFT.

I know 3d vision works and there are threads at nVidia's 3dVision forum but I'm nervous when I read 3dvision compatible and nothing about LightBoost with 3d Vision.

3D: Does PG278Q have LightBoost?

Yes it does have LightBoost – if you plug in the 3D Vision IR emitter the Nvidia drivers will detect the PG278Q and offer the function. When the 3D is enabled the monitor LED turns green.

The highest 3D mode supported is 120Hz to match the active display glasses

Nice to know!

Here is a positive view:

ROG Swift here and I have been using 3D Vision for about 2 weeks now and have zero issues with inversion striping, vertical or horizontal. Yes there is matte related crystalization, what some owners refer to as a kind of grit on the screen, yes the viewing angles are abysmal compared to IPS but as far as Nvidia 3D vision goes, IT ROCKS. I am absolutely loving it, prefer it over G-Sync.

Games tried so far in 3D vision with this monitor:

AC4: Black Flag
Crysis 3
Batman: AC

It could be the case that the purported issue of inversion striping is unit specific, as many, many have received units that have had issues. My Swift has no dead pixels and 3D Vision looks flawless, Light Boost 2 is also awesome.

So unless youve actually seen these issues yourselves and have inspected one or more other ROG Swift's to confirm the issue isn't unit specific please refrain from saying 3D Vision on the Swift is poor, because it absolutely isn't.

I have owned other 3d monitors as well as tridef 3d monitors and equipment... the swift with 3d vision 2 is hands down the best experience I have had the opportunity to see.

Hands down, nice to hear.

That Swift monitor is enticing, G-sync, 144hz, 1ms, 2560 x 1440 for smooth 2d gaming, and GPU's offer DSR if one desires higher rez -- thin bezels for 2d and 3d surround flexibility -- 3dvision, LightBoost gaming at 2560 x 1440.

Earlier today I listened to this audio interview with Tom Petersen:

Behind the scenes: Unedited audio of my G-Sync chat with Nvidia’s Tom Petersen

http://thegametechnician.com/2015/0...-of-my-g-sync-chat-with-nvidias-tom-petersen/

Ya think of the advances that nVidia has offered to monitors -- 3dvision, LightBoost, G-sync and this seems to be just the start because their strategy is to continue to innovate here -- probably to continue to leverage for their ecosystem and promote their brand.

Tom Peterson touched a bit on their monitor innovation strategy.

Those minor issues aside, yes it is a great monitor. If my current monitor were to die *knock on wood* I'd end up with a Rog. It does everything I want apart from IPS and also comes with true 8 bit color which will be slight jump from my current monitor which isn't.

If I can hold my breath for an IPS panel, that'd be where I'd go.

So a bunch of places are reporting that Oculus Rift won't be out this year.

This leaves the door wiiiiiiiiide open for Valve to steal the market with their HTC VR headset they intend to release at the end of this year.

If this is actually true, it's a bad move on Oculus' part.

Any of you use an Acer XB270H? Thinking about picking one up while there on sale today but kind of hate buying any thing with a screen online. Unfortunately that's about the only way to get Gsync or 3d vision monitors though.

was able to get Walmart.com to price match so at least if I have any issues I can just return it without having to deal with shipping. Its only 1080p but $400. for 27" 1080p Gsync 3d vision monitor is hard to pass up. I am also still using one of the first 3d vision monitors ever so no matter what its got to be a big step up.

New Egg has 3d vision kit's for $49.99 atm. They are the original glasses but the only differences between them and the 2's are the lens size, the 2's block outside light a little better and have thinner ear pieces to make wearing over ear headphones a little more comfortable.
