Mad Max game Official Discussion Thread

its worth 20 though. If you enjoy it, you wont regret the 20 spent.
I paid $15 for it and was pleasantly surprised. Despite it being very generic in gameplay, it filled an under-served niche very well. I loved the environments, the mood, the wacky characters. It was very true to the bleak Mad Max themes, which I respect.

Totally worth it (for cheap) for the experience, despite the game clearly not being all that well made. To me it is a lot like Rage, ironically. Both are beautiful post-apoc games that got many bad reviews, but both serve great niches if you give them a chance.

LTTP but game is down to $15 on Bundle Stars so I finally picked it up.

So far it seems pretty much as I expected it to be. Quite polished looking and runs great but terribly average gameplay. Seems like I will enjoy it regardless as the license and setting is right up my alley. Only played for about a hour so far though, just got back to the garage with the body for the magnum opus.

Also I tried mouse&k/b to start but switched to controller and think I will stick with that for this game. Was thinking it would control a lot like Arkham and Shadow of Mordor, and it does somewhat but not enough that I'd like to ditch analog sticks for.

Yeah yeah OK.:)

Anyways I played some more and actually liking it a lot. Its funny when the game released it was getting praised by a lot of people who I thought wouldn't like it, and now I am starting to see why. Its terribly average, go through the motions type gameplay but something about it is very fun and almost therapeutic to play.

Its just one of those games that really scratches that itch. Big, dumb, fun game and has just enough different things going for it to keep me interested. I'm thinking going to Dark Souls 3 right after this will be quite jarring though.

I am really liking this game so far. Starting to wonder how big it is, as the map seems pretty damn huge and there is a ton of side stuff to do.. and I do enjoy getting side tracked in this game.

I have put almost 10 hours into the game already and have only touched two sections of the map so far. My OCD is strong in this game and I do like to 100% each camp, and sometimes I find myself wandering around for that last piece of scrap or insignia which eats up a lot of time. I have also noticed that yes you need to focus on the main missions at times to unlock certain game mechanics.

Love love love the atmosphere in this game though. They nailed it and it really feels like I'm in a Mad Max movie.

Was one of my fav games in the past year. I didnt 100% every camp cause I hate aimlessly wandering for stuff but I got enough stuff to upgrade all parts of my car. But the time I got to the last mission I was OP cause my car was fully upgraded

Yeah I was also wondering about how scarce scrap is, or if its plentiful.

I noticed there is a couple different achievements for have 5,000 and 10,000 scrap in your inventory, and I haven't had more than maybe 800 at one time so far. So I am assuming at later stages of the game there are tons of it. I guess it makes sense since the more camps you take over and allies occupy them the more scrap they send you. Think there is a stronghold project to get scrap while not even in game too.

Maybe I shouldn't bother getting 100% for every location then, at least for now.

Yeah game doesn't really do anything "different" but it's got something that makes me never get bored , Red Faction guerrilla has this for me too. Maybe it's the gameplay, and the cars.

Game sure looks nice anyway.

Its the setting, story, and characters for me. I am huge Mad Max fan and the game just nails the feel of the movies. The gameplay is very safe and repetitive but it all works well and I think the main goal of upgrading the magnum opus gives it all a sense of purpose.

Just a great use of the license by Avalanche Studios.

I finished the game not regretting the purchase (at sale price), but not particularly thrilled with it either.

I think my opinion of the game would have been vastly improved by two very simple "quality of life" changes:

1. Allowing the damn mini-cutscenes for eating, refilling canteen, refilling car, etc. to be skipped or disabled outright.
2. Not having to hold a button down to collect scrap.

Seriously, if I were to rate the game on a 10 point scale, those two changes would probably improve the score two points

Allowing animations for repetitive tasks in an open world game to skipped should be a commandment in the game developer's bible. Avalanche should have taken a page from the Far Cry developers on that.

I agree games should add an option to disable these types of mini cutscenes for doing these tasks that will be done hundreds of times throughout a playthrough.

I am wondering though if at least in the case with Mad Max its done because of a gameplay element in that they don't want you to be able to eat, drink, or scavenge during combat. The game even tells you at one point to make sure and heal up ahead of time because you wont be able to in a fight.

Collecting scrap is something that definitely could have been done instantly though.

I played it again for a bit and it was as exciting as the previous times I played. I hate getting side tracked with other games all the damn time. I am doing a 2 month no more new games ban now that the Division is out.

This game is great and honestly I am glad I didn't play it upon release because it may have really kept me away from playing MGSV.

I really do love the game and even the busy side work type gameplay is fun. All except the mine field clearing which is definitely a chore. Even that though I do enjoy when I finally decide to do it since I love Dinki Di.

Also, just wanted to mention the combat again since earlier in the thread I was asking about it. The combat turned out to be fine IMO. Its really satisfying and works very well. I think my concern was along the lines of not always being able to avoid getting hit and it just being a bit sloppy in general but I don't feel that's the case. Its works well enough and as long as you don't let yourself get overwhelmed you can totally control every situation. Its basic but also there's enough things for Max to do in combat to keep it from getting old.

I've logged almost 50 hours into this game and still having a blast. I am kind of kicking myself though as I did focus a bit too much at the start on wasteland missions, clearing out territories and dismantling camps. My thinking though was once I got into the story missions I'd want to just keep it going since I know the story pacing in these open world sandbox games can get ruined if you keep getting side tracked. Then after finishing I may not feel so motivated to come back to it. I've got most side stuff done now though and will focus my attention to the story now.
