Help!

Steam is playing silly sods, and won't display any other pages other than libary

All other games through steam working other than;

Rocksmith & RS2014 failing to start

Rocksmith - error code 51
Rocksmith 2014 - "File corrupted His program has been manipulated and maybe it's infected by a Virus or cracked. This file won't work anymore."

Running Win10 64
both installations have worked fine for years

both files verfied by steam
both files deleted and reinstalled
i have run a full virus check (on 6tb of hardrives - which was so slow)
system restore not available - turns out Win10 doesn't have this on by default - doh!
deleted - ClientRegistry.blob
added rules to window defender not to scan RS.exe files or steam.exe

suspects;
win10 major update
creative drivers - updated (which have now been removed)
realtek drivers - removed
nvidia drivers - updated (which have now been rolled back)
superanti spyware - last sweep seemed particularly aggressive

Note: I spend 1hr at least day on RS2014

still no joy anyone any ideas or experience of this
(seriously considering going back to win7 at the moment where life was easy)

From another PC get a boot ISO of av and boot from that then scan. Maybe RS got confused and you went to pr0nhub to wiggle those fingers instead ;) G/L all the same.

im trying the spyhunter
but from 2 days of google magic, the range of causes
varied from nvidia drivers to corrupt files to random glitch

but im prepared to try stuff out rather the full os re-install

I'm going to assume you ran CCleaner & MalwareBytes (or equivalent) just to make sure it's not a reg or other junk issue.

Uninstall the games and reinstall them on another drive ... just to see if it's a drive issue / location issue. (May also work on flash drive but I'm not sure)

Rename / Move steam game directory and then uninstall/reinstall steam (if may just be a steam issue ... it happens)

Is there scandisk in Win10? - to make sure that actual disk is fine and it's just not a bad sector.

As everybody else says, 2nd AV & low level scanner to be 100% sure it's not a virus or rootkit issue.

Have you tried going back to a Windows restore point before the problem happened? That would rule out that it could be something related to an automatic Windows Update, or some other install.

Windows Updates can break things very easily. It happened to me recently when I was on a cruise ship in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with basically no internet access. It turned out a WU had downloaded when I had a connection, and then force a reboot and the whole thing was ****ed with nothing I could really do. Luckily the restore point fixed it. That's the reason why I generally run with automatic updates off, but this time they somehow got enabled.

RE: WIN10 system restore, see my original post
"system restore not available - turns out Win10 doesn't have this on by default - doh!"

Not a bad idea about the system updates though, as win10 seems to be trying to take vista's crown for bloat fest and bugs

UPDATE:
win10 and steam don't seem to be playing nicely together at the moment according to the steam forums

and blank store page and forum is known problem (current workaround is use big picture mode)

I'm guessing in my case this is having a knock on effect, as steam contacts ubisoft which are both live (i'm guessing), which you would think could be resolved with just using steam in offline mode - unfortunately this isn't the case

win7 is looking more attractive by the minute, particularly as no dx12 patches etc have appeared

Luckily I waited with Win10..

Must be something hardware specific because I cant say I am having any problems more then before I had windows 10 on my PC.

That sucks. I really don't know what to think of Win10. Even with it being free I am reluctant to update. :-/

I would say W7 > W10 except for that entire DX12 thing.
To me the tile thing for W8.X just sucked. So W10>W8.

To me the tile thing for W8.X just sucked. So W10>W8.

Tile thing has never bothered me, mainly because I switched to using the search function in the start menu as soon as it was available in an earlier windows version and to get all the other stuff e.g. control panel all you need to do is right click on the windows button.

So given my experience with Win 10 on my laptop I'm sticking with Win 8.1 on my gaming desktop and would say 8.1 > W10 currently.
